Chapter 17 — Did You Try to Kill Me?
Himiko Toga lay on the grass, staring blankly at the blue sky.
The park was quiet.
No one passed through this area. The only sounds were birds chirping and the soft rustle of leaves swaying in the wind.
After a long time, she finally sat up.
"My first kiss… stolen by a U.A. student…"
Her cheeks flushed again as she thought about Akio Tatsuma.
For some reason, the memory made her feel strangely excited.
It was unfamiliar.
She had never liked boys before.
The only feelings she normally experienced were the thrill of hunting prey—the excitement of finding someone whose blood fascinated her.
But this time… it was different.
Her heart had actually skipped a beat.
And that was troubling.
Very troubling.
After returning home, Akio took a cold shower.
He needed it.
The encounter earlier had left him a little restless. It was the first time since arriving in this world that he had gotten into such an awkward situation.
Still, someone like Himiko Toga was dangerous.
If you didn't truly understand her or reach her heart, getting close to her could easily become fatal.
After all, the girl walked around stabbing people with needles.
Blood everywhere.
Definitely not normal.
Cute, but terrifying, Akio thought.
A dangerous combination.
After calming down, Akio sat cross-legged on the sofa and began his usual training.
Not long after, a familiar notification appeared in his mind.
Save Points +50Saved Person: Himiko Toga
Akio paused.
"…What?"
He frowned.
Saved?
"I didn't save her."
If anything, she had tried to stab him.
Akio thought about it for a moment.
Maybe the system considered his actions as preventing her from doing something worse.
Either way, the result was the same.
His Save Points had increased.
"850 points…"
Only a little more remained before he could purchase the weapon and special suit he had been saving for.
Akio believed items from the system would likely be superior to the standard equipment issued by U.A.
Just then—
Knock knock.
The door opened.
Sakura Inoue stepped inside carrying a lunch box.
"It's already late," she said gently. "You're still growing, so you should eat something before sleeping."
It was already close to ten at night.
For her, this counted as a late-night snack.
After Sakura left, Akio opened the box.
Inside were neatly arranged sushi, sashimi, and fried fish cutlets.
Since arriving in Japan, he rarely had the chance to eat Chinese food anymore. Though he missed it sometimes, the food here was excellent as well—clean, well prepared, and full of variety.
The next day.
At U.A. High School, the morning consisted of general classes.
English was taught by Present Mic.
Unfortunately, his lessons were surprisingly dull.
Even with his energetic personality, most students looked half asleep.
When lunchtime arrived, the cafeteria finally came alive.
U.A.'s cafeteria was famous for its food—high-quality meals at low prices.
Akio found a quiet table in the corner and ordered a Chinese-style meal.
He hadn't eaten it in a while.
On his tray were:
Tomato scrambled eggs
Spicy chicken
Stir-fried green peppers
Teriyaki chicken drumstick
French fries
Akio had a big appetite, so finishing everything wouldn't be a problem.
He had just taken a few bites when someone suddenly sat down across from him.
Looking up, he saw Izuku Midoriya.
A moment later, Tenya Iida and Ochaco Uraraka joined as well.
Akio blinked.
These three naturally ended up sitting at his table.
"Akio," Midoriya said awkwardly, "do you mind if we eat together?"
Akio looked at the three already seated.
"Well… you're already here."
"Of course."
Akio was easygoing by nature. He actually enjoyed making friends, and these three left good impressions on him.
Iida was straightforward and honest, though sometimes too blunt.
Uraraka was kind and cheerful.
And Midoriya… Akio understood him better than most.
"Akio," Iida said directly, "you usually sit alone. Is it difficult for you to socialize?"
Akio almost choked on his food.
That's incredibly blunt…
But he smiled.
"It's just a habit."
"I don't mind eating with friends."
Midoriya looked delighted.
"Really?"
He clearly admired Akio a lot.
Akio casually picked up a piece of curry chicken and dropped it into Midoriya's bowl.
"Really."
Midoriya didn't hesitate.
He ate it immediately.
Then Akio calmly reached over and stole a piece of pork cutlet from Iida's tray.
Iida froze.
"…Akio."
"Do you enjoy eating other people's food?"
"My pork cutlet just disappeared."
Akio patted his shoulder.
"Relax."
"Try this instead."
He pushed a piece of spicy stir-fried pepper toward Iida.
Iida hesitated.
But out of curiosity, he took a bite.
A second later—
"SPICY!"
He grabbed his drink immediately.
Akio laughed.
"Some people here aren't used to spicy food."
"What was that thing you said earlier?" Iida asked while fanning his mouth.
"You said something about inheriting flowers?"
Akio waved it off.
"Just a saying."
Then his eyes shifted to Uraraka's tray.
Uraraka instantly guarded it with both hands.
"Don't even think about it."
"Girls don't share food with boys."
Akio chuckled.
"I wasn't going to steal it."
"I was going to offer you Chinese food."
"I refuse!"
Uraraka answered immediately.
Akio dramatically covered his forehead.
"So heartless…"
"Looks like Midoriya already has a special place in your heart."
Uraraka's face turned bright red.
"A-Akio!"
"What are you saying?!"
Midoriya looked confused.
Iida looked between the two of them.
"…I see."
Uraraka immediately glared at him.
"Iida, stop imagining things!"
"I didn't say anything!" Iida protested quickly.
The meal ended with laughter.
By the time they left the cafeteria, Akio realized something.
His relationship with these three classmates had already grown closer.
And the days ahead at U.A. High School were only just beginning.
