Chapter 20 — Lightning Style: Chidori Spear
Bakugo Katsuki understood one thing very clearly.
Now was not the time to fight Shoto Todoroki.
Even with his confidence, fighting Todoroki first would only weaken his chances against Akio Tatsuma. And Akio was already a troublesome opponent.
Bakugo had been analyzing him since the start.
Akio's lightning ability was fast, precise, and difficult to counter.
Meanwhile, Todoroki had already moved ahead.
The building had eight floors, and he had already reached the fourth.
Ice spread across the corridors as he advanced.
The temperature dropped rapidly.
Todoroki believed that even if Akio's Quirk was powerful, the freezing environment inside this enclosed building would gradually weaken him.
Then—
At the end of the corridor stood a figure.
Akio Tatsuma.
Behind him was the staircase leading to the sixth floor.
"Hello again," Akio said calmly.
Outside, students watched the battle through the monitors.
"He's facing both of them alone?" Mashirao Ojiro said in shock.
Kirishima clenched his fist excitedly.
"That's manly!"
Invisible girl Toru Hagakure suddenly spoke.
"Akio looks really cool right now."
Some classmates turned toward her.
Yuga Aoyama flipped his hair.
"Hagakure, do you like Akio?"
"W-What?!" she stammered. "Don't you think he looks cool?"
No one could see her face, but they could easily imagine her embarrassment.
Before the conversation continued—
Iida raised his voice.
"Everyone, please focus on the match."
"We'll be fighting soon as well."
The room quieted immediately.
Inside the building.
Todoroki acted first.
Without a word, he stomped lightly.
CRACK!
Ice burst forward across the floor, racing toward Akio.
Akio had already expected this.
He raised his right hand calmly.
A bolt of lightning shot forward.
CRACK!
The electric current pierced straight through the advancing ice.
Todoroki's expression changed slightly.
Akio's attack power exceeded his expectations.
But he didn't hesitate.
Bringing both hands together, Todoroki thrust them forward.
A massive wave of ice erupted from his palms, surging toward Akio like a frozen avalanche.
Akio smiled.
"Not bad."
Lightning gathered in his palm.
Blue sparks condensed into a narrow line.
"Lightning Style — Chidori Spear."
A thin beam of concentrated lightning shot forward.
The blue lightning sliced through the ice like a blade.
SHATTER!
Todoroki's ice attack broke apart instantly.
Fragments scattered across the corridor.
Watching from the control room, several students gasped.
"What was that move?"
"That didn't look like a normal Quirk attack!"
The lightning technique was extremely precise.
Instead of a large blast, it formed a focused spear of electricity.
All Might narrowed his eyes slightly.
Akio's ability to manipulate lightning with such control was unusual.
It felt less like raw power and more like trained technique.
Almost like something a professional hero would develop after years of combat experience.
Yet Akio was still a student.
All Might couldn't quite explain the feeling.
Something about Akio seemed… different.
Back in the corridor.
Todoroki now looked at Akio with genuine seriousness.
He had fully acknowledged him as a real opponent.
But before the fight continued—
A voice exploded behind him.
"MOVE!"
Bakugo burst forward from the stairwell.
Explosions ignited in both palms.
"Let me blow this arrogant guy away!"
Akio glanced at both of them.
"Fine."
"Come together."
Bakugo launched himself forward with an explosion.
"DIE!"
Smoke and fire filled the corridor.
The explosion spread thick black smoke everywhere.
Inside the smoke—
Akio raised his left hand slightly.
An invisible pressure spread through the air.
His Air Manipulation ability compressed the oxygen around the explosion.
The flames weakened instantly, leaving mostly smoke.
Hidden inside the cloud, Akio moved.
Fast.
Bakugo expected the smoke to hide his approach.
Instead—
Akio burst through it.
In an instant he reached Bakugo.
His right hand touched Bakugo's chest.
Blue lightning flashed.
CRACK!
Bakugo's body went rigid.
His legs gave out and he dropped to one knee.
Before Akio could finish the move—
CRACK!
Ice surged forward.
Todoroki froze Akio's right arm in place.
"I won't let you finish this," Todoroki said coldly.
A larger wave of ice erupted toward him.
Akio immediately retreated up the stairs to the sixth floor.
Once out of sight of the cameras, he flicked his left hand.
Compressed air shattered the ice around his arm.
Meanwhile below—
Todoroki spoke calmly.
"His lightning hand is frozen."
"He won't be able to use it for a while."
He stepped toward the stairs.
But suddenly—
A hand grabbed his ankle.
Bakugo.
His teeth were clenched tightly.
"I'm… not losing to that guy."
Todoroki looked down.
"You can still move?"
Bakugo forced himself to stand.
His legs trembled slightly.
But his eyes burned with fury.
"I'm fine."
Todoroki nodded.
"If you can't continue, don't force it."
"Just follow me."
He began running toward the sixth floor.
Bakugo wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
"Stop talking."
"I'm not done yet."
And he charged after Todoroki.
