When the plane landed, a car was already waiting near the runway, ready to take them to the Belmont residence.
Trevor spent the entire ride staring out the window in wonder. It was the first time he had ever left the country.
The trip was relatively quick.
It was only when they approached the house that Trevor realized Lucius had been extremely humble when he referred to it as simply a "house."
It was a gigantic mansion.
A vast field surrounded the property, with carefully maintained gardens that seemed to stretch for hundreds of meters.
When the car passed through a large metal gate ornamented with the Belmont family crest and continued toward the main entrance, Trevor felt his excitement grow at the thought of seeing his new home.
Noticing his grandson's enthusiasm, Lucius let out a small laugh.
"Easy there, boy. Soon enough you'll know this house like the back of your hand."
Trevor seriously doubted that.
In fact, he was certain he would need a map just to find the bathroom during his first few days.
Another thing he noticed was the number of servants working throughout the property. Some were tending the gardens, others cleaning windows or organizing different areas of the mansion.
It was an incredibly busy place.
"Come on. I'll show you around."
Lucius handed the luggage to one of the servants and led Trevor inside.
As soon as they crossed the front door, Trevor found himself standing in an enormous entrance hall.
A grand staircase rose in the center, leading to the second floor.
"This way. Let's start with your room."
They climbed the stairs and walked down a long corridor lined with doors.
The walls were decorated with numerous paintings.
As they walked, Trevor studied the portraits.
He assumed they were his ancestors.
Most of them he didn't recognize.
But one painting caught his attention.
It was an old portrait of a man with brown hair and blue eyes, dressed in an elegant dark-blue suit.
Beside him stood a dark-skinned woman with long dreadlocks adorned with small golden ornaments. She wore a beautiful yellow dress and had a charming smile.
Below the portrait was a small plaque that read:
Richter and Annette Belmont
Trevor's mind nearly exploded at that moment.
He recognized those names.
And those faces.
They were protagonists of the series he had watched in his previous life.
Not knowing how to react, Trevor simply continued following his grandfather.
"We're here."
Lucius opened a large wooden door.
The room revealed inside was enormous.
Much larger than any bedroom Trevor had ever had in his previous life.
In the center stood a king-size bed.
Trevor didn't hesitate.
He jumped straight onto it.
"Whoa, easy there, boy. No need to get that excited."
Lucius laughed.
"This room is yours now."
Trevor barely heard what his grandfather said.
He was too busy enjoying how soft the bed was.
It felt like lying on a cloud.
"Glad you like it."
Lucius crossed his arms.
"Come on. I'll show you the kitchen. After that trip you must be starving."
At the word food, Trevor immediately jumped to his feet.
He followed his grandfather to the dining room.
After everything he had already seen, Trevor wasn't even that surprised by the size of the room anymore.
He simply sat down at the table and waited while one of the maids brought breakfast.
When the food arrived, Trevor attacked the plate like a starving beast.
That earned a few laughs from both the maid and Lucius.
"Tastes good, boy?"
"Mmm-hmm."
Trevor replied with his mouth full.
At that moment, he made an important decision.
No matter what, he would learn the secrets of that cook.
After eating, Lucius had some matters to attend to and left Trevor free to explore the mansion.
"If you need anything, you can ask any of the staff for help."
As soon as he was alone, Trevor immediately returned to the corridor filled with family portraits.
Unfortunately, he didn't recognize anyone else.
Still, his curiosity only grew stronger.
With the help of one of the maids, he eventually found the Belmont family library.
It was enormous.
Countless shelves were filled with books.
History books.
Combat manuals.
Works of literature.
Trevor immediately felt like he had found his favorite place in the entire mansion.
In his previous life, he had always dreamed of having a library.
Now that dream had finally come true.
But before simply enjoying the place, he needed to find something specific.
He began searching through the shelves.
He wanted a book about the history of the Belmont family.
After some time looking, he found a red-covered book that looked very similar to the one his mother used to read stories to him.
Immediately, he pulled a chair over and climbed onto it to reach the book.
Even then, he still had to stand on his tiptoes.
The book was large and heavy.
When he finally managed to pull it free from the shelf…
He lost his balance.
And fell off the chair.
"Argh… who thought it was a good idea to put such a heavy book so high up?"
But that didn't matter.
He quickly stood up, brushed the dust off his clothes, and placed the book on a nearby table.
On the cover was the Belmont family crest.
Trevor smiled.
He had found the right book.
The pages were slightly yellowed with age.
He began flipping through them.
The story was very similar to what he remembered from the games in his previous life.
Everything began with Leon Belmont.
A knight of the Crusades who abandoned everything to rescue his fiancée.
He was the first to fight against vampires.
And he was the one who created the legendary whip, the Vampire Killer, with the help of a druid.
The weapon was forged through the sacrifice of his fiancée, Sara Trantoul, whose soul was used to give the whip its power.
A pure soul that willingly sacrificed itself so that no one else would have to suffer the same fate.
As the centuries passed, the will of countless Belmonts joined that purpose.
And thus, the Vampire Killer became the perfect weapon against the creatures of darkness.
Trevor was so absorbed in his reading that he didn't even notice someone approaching.
"Boo!"
"Ahhh!"
Trevor nearly jumped out of his chair.
Lucius stood behind him.
The old man burst into laughter at the frightened look on his grandson's face.
"That's not funny! I almost died here!"
Lucius kept laughing.
"Haha… it seems we'll have to improve your awareness and your senses, boy."
Trevor was annoyed, but he didn't reply.
He knew his grandfather was right.
Lucius then glanced at the book.
"Oh? Curious about our family's history?"
Trevor replied a bit awkwardly.
"After seeing so many ancestors I didn't recognize… I got curious."
He slowly closed the book.
"Mom told me some stories… but not as complete as the ones in this book."
Lucius nodded.
"It's good to see you taking interest in our family's history."
He placed a hand on Trevor's shoulder.
"If you have any questions, you can ask me."
He paused for a moment before continuing.
"By the way, I've already arranged your studies."
Trevor looked up.
"You'll be studying at home."
Lucius continued.
"I've hired several private tutors."
Then he added:
"And starting tomorrow… you'll begin the Belmont family training."
Trevor's eyes widened.
He quickly nodded.
After that, he followed his grandfather to see the rest of the mansion.
But although he was amazed by everything around him…
His mind was focused on only one thing.
What the training would be like the next day.
