I found Nina's bluntness refreshing. I gave her an abridged version of my secret admirer story, careful to withhold the sender's gender and my orientation on the off chance she was violently homophobic.
She followed along eagerly. Nodding encouragingly and asking questions every once in a while. When I was done she leaned back against the counter with an amused smirk on her lips.
"Sounds like you've fallen for your admirer."
I choked on my own spit and shook my head, "I didn't- can't. I've already got…got someone in mind."
"Are you dating this someone?"
I slowly shook my head.
Nina nodded like she'd been expecting that answer, "Then you don't owe them shit."
"Actually I-"
Nina held up a hand, "You don't owe them your feelings. What's the point in waiting for someone who's never coming around. Especially when you've got such a romantically inclined suitor that's actually interested in you."
