My eyes were only a little puffy by the time we made it to the botanical garden. I shot off a message to my professor letting him know I'd arrived. When I received the message 'all checked in, have fun' with a thumbs up I wanted to chuck my phone into the asphalt.
"He's not even going to make me check in in person?" I hissed while my knuckles turned white gripping my phone.
To add insult to injury, I got a text from a classmate reading 'if prof asks I was with u all day'.
I pressed my phone against my face until the hard edges of the screen protector dug into my forehead. Kay patted my back awkwardly. I smiled at him tightly and sighed.
"Well I guess it's just us today."
"Oh noooooo," Kay drew out the word dramatically, letting me know he was in no way opposed to this development.
