Chapter 4 - Calling Off The Marriage

KALIA

"And why won't you get married to Callum?" My stepmother yelled at me.

"Who gave you the rights to call off your marriage without our permission? Do you know what lengths we went through to organize everything?"

"Why does it bother you so much that I'm calling it off? It's my marriage stepmother and the last time I checked, it had nothing to do with you. It is my decision so I don't know why you're being stressed about it." I answered and her mouth almost dropped to the ground.

"If I say that I'm calling it off then everyone will have no other choice but to deal with it whether they like it or not."

"Did you just talk back at me, Kalia?" She asked and that's when it hits me that I have never raised my voice at any of them. not once, not ever.

I have always hung my head low and took in all the insults, the yelling and beatings with nothing but a smile on my face but not anymore.

That part of me doesn't exist anymore, it died that night Callum murdered me.

"Yes, stepmother and I assure you that it won't be the last time I do so." I stated firmly, taking her by surprise.

I noticed the nervous look on Celyn's face; I'm pretty sure that Callum must've called to inform her about the recent development but I'm not ready for her yet.

One by one, they're gonna get what's coming. Their karma will be slow and excruciatingly painful for everything that I've had to endure for a long time.

All these years, I have struggled to gain their love and acceptance. I struggled to be the perfect daughter that they were proud of. I had always done all the work to please them.

I had always been insulted and accused for things that I didn't do. I had always told myself that them treating me badly was all in my head and that I was only imagining it but I wasn't.

I can remember how they never even let me complete my education and forced me to stop halfway through college because they didn't want any competition for Celyn when it was time for her to take over the family business.

It's crystal clear now that they never really considered me as part of their family and that's why they always portrayed Celyn to the world as their daughter and hid me in the shadows like an abomination.

No wonder they didn't even bother to come and visit once or check in with me after I had married Callum. They simply didn't care. I have always been nothing but a slave to them, a nobody. A worthless Omega.

I had always wondered what I had done wrong but it was never me, it was them all along. The pain stung but it didn't hurt as much as what as I currently going through.

Right then and there, I decided that i have had enough. They have taken more than what I could give and I wouldn't let them take anymore.

They have used me so much that in the end, it managed to cost me everything. I lost not only myself but my child in the process. I will get back at them for this no matter what it'll cost me.

"Please do well to cancel the dinner celebration tonight. If that is all then I'll be up in my room." I said and without giving them any chance to say something more, I headed straight into my bedroom and threw my bag on the bed.

Come to think of it, my bedroom has always been smaller compared to Celyn's which resembled that of a queen. How come I never noticed? I must've been a sucker for love and attention.

I am about to change out of my nightdress when I noticed the engagement ring on my finger.

Without giving it a second thought, I pulled it off my finger and tossed it away on my drawer.

Then, I undressed myself afterwards and proceeded to have my shower. When I was done, I wore my nightdress and got under the covers to rest but my mind kept wandering off.

I couldn't help but think about a lot of things. If Callum married me not out of love but for my birthright then what did he need it for? He was the Alpha's son with a lot of money to his name so why on earth would he go far to that extent?

Was there something that he knew that I didn't know?

If I want to get my revenge on him then I'll have to figure it out to know how to play my cards right and use the information to my advantage.

I couldn't come up with a reasonable thought before dozing off. I must have been really exhausted because I don't know how long I slept but when I woke up, it was already nighttime. Just then, a sound knock came to my doctor.

"Miss Kalia," The female voice of a maid called out from outside my door. "Your in-laws are here for dinner and they're all waiting for you downstairs."

I snorted a short laugh. So they still went ahead to organize the dinner even after I had told them that I've called off the marriage with Callum? Fine! I guess it'll only be fitting that I attend and break the news myself.

"I'll be down in a bit." I answered back and I heard her footsteps retreating briskly.

I threw some aspirin into my mouth as I got ready to meet my in-laws just like they wanted.

After letting my hair down, I put on a casual dress and made my way downstairs. I was surprised to see preparations that they had made on such short notice. I couldn't help but chuckle.

Not saying anything, I ignored the already stacked table where they were seated and walked into the kitchen to make myself a light dinner before joining them.

Callum pulled a chair out for me and I sat down without a care in the world. I could see the disoriented look on their faces. They were probably wondering what's wrong with me at the moment.

"So, since we're gathered here for our children's marriage dinner celebration," Callum's father started. "We decided to—"

"Wait? What marriage dinner celebration?" I interrupted, acting clueless on purpose as I darted my eyes towards Callum.

"You still haven't told them yet?" I asked and I noticed him shifting uncomfortably in his seat.

"Kalia, don't do this right now." He gritted in a whisper through clenched teeth. "Don't embarrass me in front of my parents." He threatened.

"Told us what?" His mother questioned, her eyes shifting from mine to her son. "What are you hiding from us, Cal?"

"Nothing Mom—"

"Actually it's something quite important." I trailed off earning a death stare from Callum.

"I've called off the marriage." I blurted out in a serious tone, cutting him off. "I am no longer interested in getting married to your son and I've made that fact abundantly clear to him already."

"What!? Why!?" His father yelled. "Are you mad? Do you know what this means to my family? Are you trying to drag our name and reputation through the mud?"

"I'll talk to her father." Callum assured his father while I took a sip of my juice. " She doesn't mean what she just said. She's just a little under the weather today, that's all."

I rolled my eyes. "I feel fine and I meant every word that I had just said. I have no intentions whatsoever of becoming your bride Callum."

Callum's father sprung up from his chair in anger while my father tried to calm him down but he wouldn't listen. The whole dinner had turned into utter chaos but I pretended not to give a fuck about it.

Just then, the doorbell rang followed by a heavy knock on the front door causing everywhere to fall silent.

"He's here." Callum's father said to us in a dead voice. His anger reflecting visibly in his voice. "My eldest son is here. I asked him to join us for the celebration tonight."

Eldest son? Callum has a brother? He never mentioned it to me in all the years we were dating even after we got married.

If I can remember my past life correctly, his brother never came to this dinner celebration nor our wedding. Was he here because of the decisions and changes that I've made of recent?

"You invited him here? But—" Callum's mother was about to say but her husband silenced her so she had no other choice but to obey.

"Get the door, Kalia." My step mother ordered and left with no other choice, I did as I was told. I am the slave after all.

I arrived at the door and pulled it open only to come face to face with the same man from earlier today. The same man that I had hit with my car. The one who had hugged me to offer comfort.

He's Callum's elder brother?

"You?" I asked with furrowed brows, noting the shocked expression on his face as well.

"You're Callum's brother?" I asked. The words coming out of my mouth before I could stop them. How on earth is this even possible?
