"Did you know that Callum is not the legitimate heir to his father's pack, mother?" I overheard the distressed voice of Celyn as I made my way into the main house. I paused in my steps to listen further.
Dinner had come to an end minutes ago and everyone has left after being unable to change my mind concerning my decision to call off the marriage.
"I didn't know." My stepmother's voice came through. "I didn't even know that he had a stepbrother to begin with. He never mentioned it to any of us."
I guess that they were equally stressed about the situation ever since they found out about it. I had thought that they would be cool with it but it turned out that they weren't.
No one knew about Darren and I guess that Callum purposely hid it from all of us because he didn't want us to find out about it. But why?
With what I heard earlier in the parking lot, I can tell that he hates his half brother because his father favours him more and was probably scared that if he had introduced him to the family earlier then everything would've fallen apart and ruined his plan.
Everything was starting to make sense now but too bad that Celyn was only using him to her advantage.
"I still don't understand why he didn't tell me. I would not have gone through the trouble of seducing him if I knew that he wasn't the Alpha's true heir." Celyn's said angrily, her voice laced with deep regret and bitter frustrations.
"I would've diverted my attention to Darren instead. Everything is such a big mess now." She sighed in irritation.
"The only reason why I wanted to be with him in the first place was because I wanted to be the true Luna and daughter in-law of the pack and not some second best object dammit!" She kicked her feet on the sofa and lets out a deep breath.
"I want Darren mother." She blurted out. "I want him as my husband. After seeing him today, I know that we are meant for each other."
"You don't have to worry yourself about that my dear." Her mother assured her.
"If you want him then I will try my best to make it happen for you. Besides, It's not too late and we still have time to act quickly. You can still leave an impression before he travels out of the country and I will help you set up a meeting."
"Really mother?" She asked, excitement laced in her voice at that question. "You're going to help me?"
"Of course. You are my darling child and you deserve the absolute best."
"But what about Kalia?" She questioned. "She has already caused so much problems for us by calling off her marriage already. What if Darren's father and his family doesn't approve?"
"You are the true daughter of your father so don't fidget. With time, everything will fall into place and besides, what's the hurry?"
"And if he doesn't approve," My stepmother trailed off. "Then we will stick to the original plan. Who knows what might happen in the coming years? You might still end up being the true Luna after all."
My eyes widened in shock. I don't know what they were planning to do but it seems like they have a lot on their sleeve. Were they planning to harm Darren too? Is that it? What could be running through the sick minds of both of them?
I know that the Alexander's of the Crescent Pack is the biggest and most strongest pack and conglomerate in the country.
Most people believe that they were blessed by the moon goddess decades ago which was why everyone considered me lucky when I had married into that family in my previous life.
They had wealth, power and fame and for generations, they were considered the strongest pack to ever grace the lands so I can definitely understand Celyn's obsession in wanting to be married into that family at all costs which was why she took it upon herself to ruin my marriage and now that she knows he has a stepbrother, she also wants to ruin the innocent man's life as well. Just how far were they willing to go with this?
Straightening myself to full length, I made my way into the living room as though I didn't just eavesdrop on their conversation seconds ago.
"You finally decided to show up after creating such a big scene at dinner?" Celyn spoke up. I turned to face her and as usual she has a smirk on her face with her hands folded across her chest.
"As usual, you decided ruin our family's name, right?" She accused but I didn't say anything. I didn't want to give her an audience. "You just had to be dramatic and run off so that you can gain everyone's attention and sympathy, didn't you?"
"Are you scared?" I asked and her smile suddenly faded as quickly as they came.
"Are you scared that they might actually give me the attention instead of you? I thought that you were confident so why does my leaving bother you so much? It's not like I didn't tell you all to call off the dinner in the first place so why were you expecting me to stay?"
She chuckled in a sinister manner. "You think it bothers me? I'm only looking out for you dear sister because you have already ruined our name enough and whatever you decide to do next might affect me so stay put and better not make things any difficult for me."
"You are free to only ruin your life but count me out of it. After all, you're the one ruining your chances at ever getting married again so why should I be scared?"
"You think so highly of yourself but in real sense, you're just the pack's reject and the abandoned child that will never amount to anything so I can't be scared of you."
Without uttering a word, I approached her slowly until we were inches apart. "Then go ahead and enjoy everything that you took from me in peace, Celyn. Stop seeking validation and stop being so obsessed with a worthless pack reject. It makes you look desperate."
Before my words could digest properly, her mother slapped me hard across my cheeks that I tasted blood but then again, I never expected anything less.
