Chapter 13 - The Sands of Merzouga

The 'Ghost-Wing' jet descended through a swirling vortex of golden dust as it crossed the Moroccan border. Below them, the vast Erg Chebbi dunes stretched out like a frozen ocean of fire. But to Jin's enhanced vision, the desert didn't look like sand. It looked like trillions of golden particles of raw data, shifting and dancing in a way the System couldn't control.

"We're entering the 'Zero-Latency' zone," Zero-Day shouted over the roaring engines. "Gravity is about to get weird. Hold on!"

As the jet landed silently behind a massive dune, the door hissed open. Jin stepped out, the scorching heat of the Sahara hitting him like a physical wall. But it wasn't just heat; it was the sheer pressure of the mana in the air. Here, the System's red notifications were flickering and dying, replaced by ancient, golden symbols he had never seen before.

Mi-na walked beside him, her silver veins glowing with an intensity that rivaled the sun. She knelt and ran her hand through the sand. As the grains touched her skin, they turned into blue light, flowing upward like a reverse waterfall.

"The sand... it's remembering me, Jin," she whispered, her voice echoing across the silent dunes. "It says the Monolith is breathing beneath us."

Suddenly, the silence was broken by the sound of a traditional flute, its melody cutting through the wind. From behind a nearby rock formation, a tall man appeared. He was dressed in a deep blue Tuareg robe, his face veiled, but his eyes—sharp and amber—showed the wisdom of someone who had survived a thousand storms. He carried a staff made of dark wood, engraved with the same golden symbols Jin saw in the air.

[Analyze: Target Detected][Name: Idir] [Rank: Unknown] [Class: Desert Warden / Ancient Coder]

"You are far from the neon lights of the East, Glitch Hunter," Idir said, his voice deep and calm, speaking in a perfect fusion of Arabic and the language of the System. "The sand told me a 'Broken File' was coming. I did not expect it to bring its sister."

Jin gripped his 'Glitch Dagger', but he didn't feel hostility from the man. He felt... a connection. "We're looking for the Desert Monolith. My father sent me."

Idir looked at the horizon, where the sun was beginning to set, turning the dunes into a sea of blood-red light. "The Monolith is not a place you find. It is a place that allows you to enter. But be warned, the Association's 'Firewall' is not the only thing guarding this desert. The sands themselves will test if your soul is made of flesh... or just corrupted code."

As Idir spoke, the ground beneath them began to vibrate. A massive, geometric shadow started to rise from the center of the dunes, tearing through the golden sand like a titan awakening from a long slumber.
