The sirens cut through the morning traffic. Elena turned the car onto the warehouse access road. Dust hung in the air. Red emergency lights flashed against the concrete walls. She parked near the emergency exit. Grabbed her hard hat. Pulled the strap tight. Stepped out. The ground vibrated. Another low groan echoed from the roof structure.
She pushed through the side door. Concrete dust coated the floor. Steel beams hung at odd angles. The fire suppression pipes dangled from the ceiling. Water pooled near the loading bay. Staff stood near the emergency exit. Hard hats. High-visibility vests. Faces pale. She walked straight to the floor manager. "Status," she said.
"Roof section four dropped at seven twelve," he said. "Pallet rack collapsed. Three workers cleared. One pinned. Structural team is on site. Fire department is holding the perimeter."
"Who is pinned," she asked.
