Fairy Tail: The Journey
Chapter 15
Kai walked up to Makarov after the celebration finally died down, the guild hall still messy from the chaos. Makarov sat at the bar, face flushed red from drinking, laughing loudly at something only he found funny.
"Hey, Master, I want to talk with you," Kai said calmly. Makarov waved his hand lazily. "Kaiiii, come drink with me!"
Kai's mouth twitched in irritation. "Old man, I'm serious," he said, pulling out a premium alcohol bottle from his inventory. "So… can you talk?"
The moment Makarov's eyes landed on the bottle, his entire demeanor changed. Using his magic, he instantly cleared the alcohol from his system and straightened up. "Ahem… Kai, my child, what did you want to discuss?" he said with a wise tone.
Kai rolled his eyes and walked outside, knowing the old man would follow. Makarov quickly joined him, still eyeing the bottle greedily.
"Well, I was thinking of building a house," Kai began. "Erza and Mira agreed too. And honestly, with how the men's dorms are… I wouldn't be surprised if they get shut down with all the destruction Natsu, Gray, and the others cause."
Makarov's mouth twitched as he remembered the constant repairs and complaints. "You're not wrong… I've been considering it myself," he admitted. Then he looked at Kai and smiled warmly. "You kids really grew up fast."
"I still remember when you and Erza came to join Fairy Tail," he continued. "Now, in just a few years, you're the youngest S-Class mage at fourteen. And Erza and Mira won't be far behind."
He paused for a moment before smirking mischievously. "So… already planning to live together, huh? Tsk tsk… half the guild will curse you for taking Fairy Tail's two most beautiful girls."
Kai waved dismissively. "If they have a problem, they can come to me. Or they can talk to Erza and Mira," he said casually.
Makarov snorted. "Either way, they'll get beaten half to death," he muttered. Kai laughed, clearly able to imagine that outcome.
"Anyway," Makarov continued, "I know a few people who can build you a proper house. But first, you'll need to buy land." He then looked at Kai seriously. "Building a house takes a lot of money. Are you sure you have enough?"
Kai smiled slightly, touched by the concern. "Don't worry, old man. I have enough saved up. And with the reward from Jude Heartfilia for helping Aunt Layla… money isn't a problem."
Makarov's eyes lit up instantly, his expression turning shameless. "Kai, my boy… you know how much trouble these kids cause. How about lending some money to the guild?" he said, rubbing his hands together.
Kai's mouth twitched. Where did that kind old man go? You switch personalities too fast, he complained internally. "Stop talking nonsense," he said aloud. "Just tell me if there's someone who can show me available land."
Makarov sighed and returned to normal. "Alright, alright. I'll introduce you to someone who can help," he said.
He looked at Kai expectantly, and after a moment, Kai sighed and tossed him the premium alcohol bottle. Makarov caught it like treasure, his face lighting up.
Kai returned to the dorms and went to sleep, his mind finally at ease after a long day. The next morning, he woke up, freshened up, and headed back to the guild.
The moment he entered, he was greeted by chaos as usual. Natsu and Gray were fighting over something meaningless while Happy hovered nearby, loudly commentating on the fight.
Cana stood nearby, collecting bets as guild members cheered and placed money on the outcome. Levy sat at a table with Jet and Droy, completely absorbed in reading the book Kai had given her.
Kai ignored the noise and quietly sat in a corner, eating a simple breakfast. Erza and Mira were nowhere to be seen, likely busy with something else.
Just then, Makarov walked in and spotted him. "Kai, good. There's an urgent mission. Come with me," he said seriously.
Kai nodded and followed him into the office without hesitation. The moment the door closed, the entire guild turned their attention toward it.
Inside, Kai leaned against the wall. "What's the mission, old man?" he asked.
"There's a massive sea serpent—likely a lesser water dragon—attacking ships," Makarov explained. "If it isn't stopped soon, it might reach Hargeon Port. The destruction there would be catastrophic."
Kai nodded calmly. "Got it. I'll leave immediately," he said.
Makarov nodded in approval. With Kai's Flying Thunder God magic, very few things could threaten him, and his swordsmanship was already monstrous. Combined with his Sun-fire, the mission was in capable hands.
Kai teleported to his room, grabbed his bag, and returned instantly. "If Erza or Mira come back, tell them I'll be back soon. They can choose the land until then," he said.
"Don't worry about that," Makarov replied.
The next moment, Kai vanished from Magnolia, reappearing far outside the town. Without wasting time, he began running at full speed, his body turning into a blazing streak as he rushed toward Hargeon Port like a meteor.
Back in the guild, Makarov stepped out of his office, only to be immediately surrounded. Natsu grabbed him first. "Old man! Where did Kai go?!"
Gray crossed his arms. "Don't tell me you gave him something interesting again," he said with a frown. Cana narrowed her eyes. "Was it an S-Class mission?"
Makarov snorted. "None of your business," he replied bluntly.
"What?! That's not fair!" Natsu shouted. "I can handle it too! Let me go!"
"You?" Gray scoffed. "You'd get eaten before even finding the enemy."
"Say that again, you stripper!"
Before they could start another fight, Makarov slammed his staff on the ground. "Enough!" he roared, silencing everyone instantly.
"This is an S-Class mission. Until you earn that rank, you don't get to ask questions," he said firmly.
The guild members grumbled in frustration, but none dared argue further. Makarov looked at them all with a stern gaze. "If you want missions like that, get stronger. Now stop wasting time and get to work!"
Almost instantly, the guild erupted into noise again, complaints turning into challenges and fights as motivation burned through them.
Makarov sighed, watching the chaos with a small smile. "Brats…" he muttered, though there was clear pride in his voice.
