Fairy Tail: The Journey
Chapter 16
Erza and Mira walked into the guild together, casually talking about something, their voices calm and in sync. The sight alone was enough to silence the entire hall, as everyone stared in disbelief. Those two only acted this peaceful when Kai was around.
Both of them paused as they noticed the unusual silence, their eyes scanning the guild. Erza frowned slightly. "Where is Kai?" she asked, her tone already carrying a hint of suspicion.
The guild members gulped nervously and slowly pointed toward Makarov. Macao quickly stood up. "Master sent him on a mission just now," he said without hesitation.
Wakaba nodded rapidly, as if his life depended on it. "Yeah! We even complained to him. How could he send Kai on a job so soon?" he added loudly.
Natsu and Gray immediately nodded as well, abandoning Makarov without a second thought. "Yeah! That's not fair!" Natsu shouted, while Gray crossed his arms. Soon, the entire guild joined in, throwing accusations one after another.
"Old man, you're overworking him!"
"He just came back!"
"Do you even let the kid rest?!"
Makarov's mouth twitched as he glared at them. "You damned bastards…" he muttered, but his words died in his throat as two dangerous gazes landed on him.
Erza and Mira stared at him, their expressions calm but their eyes anything but. A thin layer of sweat formed on Makarov's forehead. "Ahem… calm down, girls. The mission was urgent," he said quickly.
He suddenly clapped his hands. "Ah! I remember, Kai told me to ask you two to do something," he added, trying to redirect the situation.
Erza and Mira paused, their attention shifting slightly. Makarov immediately took the opportunity and gestured toward his office. "Come inside, I'll explain," he said, quickly leading them away.
The guild members watched the office door close in awe. "The guild master is really something…" one whispered. "Yeah… he avoided their rampage so easily," another added.
Inside the office, Makarov cleared his throat and looked at them. "Kai said you two should check out some available land and houses for sale," he explained. "I've already contacted an agent, so you can go and inspect the locations."
Mira nodded thoughtfully. "Well, since Kai isn't here, we should find a good place or house," she said. Erza nodded as well, clearly agreeing with the plan.
Then both of them turned toward Makarov with identical smiles that carried a dangerous edge. "And Master… next time, make sure Kai gets enough rest before sending him on missions one after another," Erza said firmly.
Makarov laughed nervously. "Ha… ha… well, I didn't really have a choice," he replied honestly. With Gildarts away visiting Cana's mother's grave and Laxus still on a mission, Kai was the only available S-Class mage.
Erza and Mira huffed but didn't press further, deciding to let it go for now. They stepped outside, waiting for the agent to arrive, already discussing what kind of house they wanted.
Makarov sighed in relief once they left. "That was close…" he muttered, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
Meanwhile, far away from Magnolia, Kai continued running at full speed toward Hargeon Port. His body was wrapped in golden flames as he moved like a blazing meteor across the land.
Yet, nothing around him was damaged. Trees remained untouched, the ground unburned, and the air stable, as if his flames chose what to destroy and what to spare.
Sun Breathing had completely fused with his magic, giving birth to those golden flames. They were powerful enough to burn anything in his path, yet gentle enough to protect what he didn't wish to harm.
Even the magic he consumed while running was constantly replenished through his breathing, drawing in ambient Ethernano and converting it seamlessly.
"I should reach there in a few more hours," Kai muttered, his speed increasing further as he continued his relentless sprint toward Hargeon Port.
