Chapter 9 - Chapter 8-"He smiled"

Days went by and it's been a week since the Omega arrived in Black Wolf pack, nothing seemed out of the ordinary and he was adjusting well.

The Alpha was a little disappointed that the Omega hadn't spoken to him again since he said his name.

He wished to hear him speak more but he cannot push him and could only wait patiently for that to happen naturally again. What he hasn't found an answer to was the cause of the way the same cut appeared on him that day.

"The elders are waiting for you" Elias met him in the hallway as soon as he got out of his chamber.

"They are early today". The Alpha commented passively while making his way there.

"They seem a little different today, I think something is going on between them". Elias added in a low voice meant for just him to hear.

Alpha Draven frowned at the information, the meeting was supposed to be the usual monthly meeting they always have with them. It's usually to discuss the pack's condition and any issue they were facing and how to solve it, if it was left to him —Alpha Draven would prefer to get rid of them as they were practically useless but tradition forbades it. Hierarchy demands it.

The door to the Alpha's office opened and all the elders' tended up immediately and the air shifted. A smirk tugged at the corner of Alpha Craven's lips but he pretended not to notice the way they went silent in his arrival and sat down on his chair.

"We came earlier than usual because there's something important to discuss". One of the elders spoke up.

The Alpha remained quiet and silently urged them on, his gaze went to each of their faces. He already had an inkling of what they wanted to talk about.

"We want to congratulate you on finding your mate after so many years but we also want to demand you introduce him to the pack as soon as possible-

"How is that any of your business?

I decide what I want to do with my mate, who do you think you are to demand I introduce him to everyone?" The Alpha could not let the elder finish talking when he cut him off.

The air immediately grew cold as the Alpha stared deadly at them, they all exchanged looks and shifted uncomfortably in their seats.

"We heard he is quite unfit to lead the pack with you, we thought the best way to shut the rumours down would be to introduce him to everyone". Another elder spoke up. Alpha Draven's gaze flew to his face.

"Have I ever lacked in leading the pack that you think I need help with it?" Alpha Draven raised one questioning eyebrow.

The elder shook his head and swallowed nervously, he could not continue and the rest of them could sense the temper of the Alpha almost snapping.

"Other packs are preparing and joining hands together through marriage and other means, we are the only pack not making alliances. It would be dire when things get serious.

A nameless Omega isn't what the pack needs, it would be more beneficial if you pick a mate from another strong pack".

"This conversation is over!" Alpha Draven boomed angrily at them.

"And this should be the last time any of you will speak of him in this manner".

The meeting that usually takes hours lasted nothing more than a few minutes, the elder left disgruntled after provoking their Alpha but without a common ground the issue wasn't solved.

Alpha Draven made his way to the training ground, he was sending the five Warriors to the Dark Moon pack today. Elias and Wilson stood beside Vince and watched the men train until they noticed their Alpha's arrival.

Elias was still upset about the exchange of Warriors for a single omega but decided to keep quiet. If he had said more than he did that day, it wouldn't just have ended with him being thrown at the wall.

Alpha Draven picked the Warriors he wanted to send to Dark Moon pack, he was engulfed in what he was doing with all of his attention on the men but he suddenly felt he was being watched.

He slowly turned around and swept his gaze around the pack house and the trees. His frown deepened in suspicion.

"Is something wrong?" Elias asked, his eyes also scanning around them looking for anything unusual.

Alpha Draven was about to give up when his eyes caught something, the wind whipped the curtains around the window frame but a figure stood without wavering behind the curtain. The omega smiled sweetly as he noticed that the Alpha was finally looking at him.

He had been there looking at him since he arrived, he had hidden himself the days prior but today he felt bold enough to watch silently from afar. When the Alpha smiled back, he felt giddy with happiness and was too shy to keep looking at him.

The warriors watching the Alpha's face break into a smile exchange looks of astonishment, it was a rare occurrence to see him smile. It was like they were witnessing the eclipse of the moon.

When the omega disappeared back into the room, his smile also faded slowly and he turned his attention back to the men.

Wilson nudged Elias and whispered in his ear.

"I will now die without regret, he smiled! Did you see it?"

"Shut up". Elias bit back and looked forward rigidly. He was experiencing a mixture of emotions and was starting to feel guilty for questioning the Alpha's decision to give the warriors away.

The Alpha had smiled, not the sarcastic or humourless smile but a genuine one, maybe it was worth it. He snapped out of his thoughts when the Alpha walked back towards the pack house in long strides.

The Alpha had never had reasons to walk with hurried steps but seeing him almost running towards the pack house his anger dissipated.
