The road beside the bridge grew quieter again after the motorcycle disappeared into the distance.
Emily and Daniel slowly began walking toward the town square. The streetlights stretched long shadows across the empty road.
Daniel kept thinking about Emily's unfinished sentence.
I almost came back.
Those words kept repeating in his mind.
"Emily," he said after a while, "you don't have to rush. But someday… I hope you'll tell me the rest."
Emily nodded quietly.
"I will."
They reached the town square where the old clock tower stood, its large hands pointing to nearly ten o'clock at night.
The place looked almost the same as it had years ago.
Daniel suddenly laughed softly.
"What?" Emily asked.
"I just remembered something," he said.
"What?"
"The night we graduated."
Emily's eyes widened slightly.
"Oh no… don't remind me."
Daniel grinned.
"You were so nervous about giving that speech."
Emily groaned.
"And you kept making faces from the crowd to distract me!"
Daniel shrugged.
"It worked though. You stopped being nervous."
Emily smiled faintly.
For a moment it felt like they were those same teenagers again.
But reality quickly returned.
"Daniel," Emily said quietly.
"Yeah?"
"Are you… happy now?"
The question surprised him.
He looked up at the clock tower for a moment before answering.
"I guess I'm still figuring that out."
Emily looked at him carefully.
"Are you still living here?"
Daniel nodded.
"Yeah. I work at my uncle's architecture firm now."
Emily looked impressed.
"You always loved designing buildings."
Daniel chuckled.
"And you always loved reminding me about it."
They both laughed softly.
But then Daniel noticed something.
Emily looked tired.
Not physically… but emotionally.
Seven years of struggles were hidden behind her calm expression.
"You should go home," Daniel said gently. "It's late."
Emily nodded.
"Yes… my mom will probably worry."
They stopped at the corner where their paths separated.
The same corner where they had said goodbye for the last time years ago.
Neither of them spoke for a few seconds.
Then Daniel finally said, "I'm glad you came back."
Emily looked at him.
"So am I."
She took a few steps away… then suddenly stopped.
"Daniel."
He turned around.
"Yes?"
Emily hesitated.
Then she said something that made his heart skip.
"Tomorrow… there's something important I need to tell you."
Daniel raised an eyebrow.
"That sounds serious."
"It is."
Daniel studied her face.
"Should I be worried?"
Emily shook her head slowly.
"I don't know."
Daniel smiled slightly.
"Well… now you've made me curious."
Emily gave a small smile back.
"Good."
And with that, she turned and walked down the quiet street toward her home.
Daniel watched until she disappeared into the darkness.
Something about tomorrow felt different.
He didn't know why…
But he had a strange feeling that the truth Emily had been hiding for years was finally about to come out.
