Chapter 29 - Evolution Beyond Limits

Volume 2 — Chapter 4: Evolution Beyond Limits

The pressure in the air had become suffocating.

Dark clouds slowly gathered above the battlefield as if the sky itself had begun reacting to the overwhelming forces colliding beneath it. The shattered land stretched for kilometers in every direction, carved apart by the destructive aftermath of the battle.

At the center of the devastation stood Icarus Grimm.

His wings of distorted reality slowly unfolded behind him, layers of space bending and twisting around their edges like torn fragments of the universe. Every slight movement caused ripples to spread through the air.

Across from him stood the Creator's Descendant.

The entity had completed its latest transformation.

Its structure had become far more stable than before. Energy flowed across its body in complex patterns that looked almost like living circuits. The creature's presence now carried a crushing weight that made the ground beneath it sink slightly.

Nexus spoke calmly in Icarus's mind.

[Power level increased.]

[Combat evolution phase three detected.]

Icarus quietly observed the entity.

"So it evolves continuously."

The Creator's Descendant suddenly disappeared.

The air exploded.

A sonic boom ripped across the battlefield as the entity closed the distance in less than a fraction of a second.

Its arm transformed again.

This time the energy blade extended far beyond its previous length, forming something closer to a massive scythe.

The weapon descended toward Icarus with terrifying speed.

Before the attack could reach him—

The wings reacted.

Reality twisted.

The blade collided with a wall of distorted space.

The impact detonated like an explosion.

A violent shockwave blasted outward, flattening everything still standing within hundreds of meters.

Even distant cliffs crumbled under the force.

Icarus remained unmoved.

The wings had blocked the attack completely.

The Creator's Descendant did not stop.

It launched another strike.

Then another.

And another.

Each blow landed with enough force to shatter mountains.

Boom.

Boom.

Boom.

The air screamed under the relentless assault.

Yet none of the attacks could reach Icarus.

The wings moved on their own.

Reality folded again and again, blocking every strike before it could touch him.

Miles away, standing on a high ridge overlooking the battlefield, Seraphine watched with shining eyes.

Her long silver hair moved gently with the wind as she sat comfortably on a large rock.

Her attention never left Icarus.

She clasped her hands together slowly.

"So persistent."

Her lips curved into a small smile.

"But you're still far from reaching him."

Below, the Creator's Descendant suddenly changed tactics.

Its body split again.

But this time—

Six copies appeared.

Each one moved simultaneously.

Six different attacks launched toward Icarus from six directions.

The battlefield erupted into chaos.

Energy blades flashed across the sky like streaks of lightning.

The wings responded instantly.

Reality warped violently around Icarus as the invisible defenses shifted to intercept each incoming strike.

Five attacks were blocked.

The sixth slipped through.

The blade cut through the air and struck Icarus directly.

But the moment it touched him—

The wings unfolded violently.

A wave of spatial distortion erupted outward like a shockwave from a collapsing star.

The attacker was launched across the battlefield.

It slammed into the ground hard enough to create a crater hundreds of meters wide.

The remaining copies vanished immediately.

Only the original entity remained.

It rose slowly from the crater.

Once again—

Its body began adjusting.

Energy layers shifted across its structure.

The damage it had taken slowly repaired itself.

But something had changed.

The entity was no longer simply attacking.

It was studying.

Nexus confirmed it.

[Opponent analysis detected.]

[Adaptive response continuing.]

Icarus lowered the void spear slightly.

"Learning mid-battle."

His voice remained calm.

Then he raised his hand again.

Void energy gathered rapidly in his palm.

The darkness condensed into a new form.

Another weapon appeared.

This time—

A sword.

The blade was long and thin, formed from compressed void energy that constantly flickered like unstable shadows.

The moment the weapon fully formed—

The ground beneath Icarus cracked.

Even the air seemed to resist its presence.

The Creator's Descendant moved again.

It appeared directly in front of him.

Its scythe blade descended with devastating force.

Icarus swung.

The void sword cut through the attack instantly.

The energy scythe shattered.

The strike continued.

The blade passed through the entity's torso.

For a brief moment—

The battlefield went silent.

Then half of the creature's body disappeared.

Erased completely.

Void energy devoured the space it touched.

The remaining half of the entity staggered slightly.

But it did not fall.

Instead—

Its body began rebuilding itself once more.

However, the regeneration was noticeably slower now.

The void energy interfered with its structure far more heavily than before.

Nexus reported the change immediately.

[Regeneration efficiency reduced by 61%.]

Icarus watched the process with mild interest.

"Still adapting."

The Creator's Descendant finished reconstructing itself.

For several seconds it did nothing.

Then—

Symbols appeared in the air again.

Strange glowing characters formed one after another.

The ancient language of the Nullscript.

Seraphine immediately recognized it.

Her expression sharpened slightly.

"Again…"

Nexus analyzed the symbols carefully.

[Translation detected.]

[Meaning: "Evolution acceptable."]

Icarus stared at the floating symbols.

Then his eyes narrowed slightly.

"Acceptable?"

For the first time in the entire battle—

The Creator's Descendant raised both of its arms.

Energy gathered around its body in massive quantities.

The sky above darkened further.

Wind began to spiral across the battlefield.

The creature's structure started changing again.

Its body grew taller.

Denser.

Stronger.

The pressure it released began crushing the ground beneath it.

Nexus spoke calmly.

[Major transformation detected.]

[Combat evolution phase four initiated.]

Miles away, Seraphine slowly stood up from her seat.

Her expression held excitement now.

She could feel the difference even from this distance.

"That thing…"

Her eyes remained fixed on Icarus.

"…might actually become interesting."

Back on the battlefield, Icarus slowly lifted his void sword.

His wings spread wider behind him.

Reality bent outward like rippling water.

The Creator's Descendant completed its transformation.

Its power surged violently.

A massive wave of energy exploded outward from its body, shaking the entire landscape.

Even distant forests trembled.

The creature stepped forward.

The ground cracked beneath its feet.

This time—

It did not rush.

Instead it raised its hand.

Energy gathered rapidly.

Then it formed a weapon of its own.

A massive spear of condensed power.

The two opponents stood silently for several seconds.

The wind howled through the destroyed battlefield.

Seraphine watched from the distant ridge with anticipation burning in her eyes.

Then—

Both moved.

The moment they collided—

The sky split with thunder.
