Volume 2 — Chapter 5: Trial of Evolution
The battlefield had long since stopped resembling land.
Mountains had collapsed into dust. Vast craters stretched across the earth like scars carved by gods. The sky itself looked distorted, trembling slightly under the pressure of the forces clashing beneath it.
At the center of the devastation stood Icarus Grimm.
His wings of twisted reality hovered behind him, slowly unfolding like fractures in the fabric of existence. Each movement bent the air around them. Space rippled faintly with every shift.
Across from him stood the Creator's Descendant.
The being had evolved again.
Its structure was far more refined now. Layers of energy flowed across its body like glowing veins, constantly adjusting, analyzing, adapting. Its presence had grown heavier, more oppressive.
For weeks, the battle had continued.
Nexus confirmed it.
[Elapsed combat duration: 27 days.]
[Opponent adaptation cycles: 114.]
Icarus remained silent.
His expression showed no fatigue, no frustration. If anything, his gaze had grown sharper.
The Creator's Descendant moved first.
Its body vanished.
The air detonated.
A violent shockwave tore across the battlefield as the entity appeared directly behind Icarus. Its weapon had already formed — a massive blade constructed from condensed energy.
The strike descended with devastating force.
Before the blade could reach him—
Reality twisted.
The wings moved on their own.
The attack collided with a warped section of space.
The impact exploded outward.
A thunderous shockwave ripped across the battlefield, flattening what little terrain still remained standing.
But Icarus had not moved.
The wings had blocked the strike completely.
The Creator's Descendant did not hesitate.
Its weapon shifted instantly.
The blade transformed into a spear, thrusting forward with blinding speed.
Again—
The wings reacted.
Space bent inward, swallowing the attack before it could touch Icarus.
Miles away, standing atop a distant ridge, Seraphine watched quietly.
Her silver hair swayed gently in the wind as she sat comfortably on a broken stone pillar.
Her crimson eyes never left Icarus.
"Still going…"
Her lips curved into a faint smile.
"Twenty-seven days."
There was admiration in her voice.
And something far more dangerous.
Obsession.
Below, the Creator's Descendant suddenly split apart.
Five identical copies appeared.
Each one moved simultaneously.
Energy weapons formed in all their hands.
The battlefield exploded into motion.
Five attacks launched toward Icarus at once.
Blades. Spears. Scythes. Lances.
The sky filled with streaks of energy.
The wings expanded.
Reality warped violently around Icarus as invisible barriers formed across multiple directions.
Four attacks were stopped instantly.
The fifth slipped through.
The spear pierced the warped space and reached Icarus.
For the first time—
The attack made contact.
The spear struck his shoulder.
But instead of blood—
Void energy erupted.
The wings reacted violently.
Space collapsed outward like a bursting star.
The attacker was hurled across the battlefield.
Its body smashed into the ground, carving a crater hundreds of meters wide.
The remaining copies vanished immediately.
Only the original entity remained.
It slowly rose from the crater.
Its damaged body began repairing itself again.
However—
The regeneration was slower now.
Void energy clung to the wound like a corrosive shadow, interfering with its reconstruction.
Nexus reported the change.
[Regeneration efficiency reduced by 64%.]
Icarus observed calmly.
"So it adapts… but it cannot fully resist the void."
The Creator's Descendant tilted its head slightly.
For the first time during the battle—
It paused.
Then strange glowing symbols began forming in the air.
Ancient characters appeared one after another.
The Nullscript language.
Even from miles away, Seraphine recognized it.
Her expression sharpened slightly.
"Again…"
Nexus translated the message.
[Translation: "Evolution acceptable."]
Icarus narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Acceptable?"
The Creator's Descendant raised its arms.
Energy began gathering around its body in massive quantities.
The ground beneath it started cracking under the pressure.
Wind spiraled violently across the ruined battlefield.
Its structure began transforming again.
Its body expanded.
Energy density increased dramatically.
The presence it released became almost crushing.
Nexus reported immediately.
[Major transformation detected.]
[Combat evolution phase: final.]
Seraphine slowly stood up from her seat.
Her eyes gleamed with excitement.
"That thing… really doesn't give up."
Back on the battlefield, Icarus raised his hand.
Void energy gathered rapidly in his palm.
Darkness condensed.
A weapon formed.
A long void spear appeared, its surface flickering like unstable shadows.
The moment it fully manifested—
The air around it began collapsing inward.
The Creator's Descendant finished its transformation.
Its new form radiated enormous power.
Energy surged across its body like storm clouds trapped beneath its skin.
Then—
It created its own weapon.
A massive spear made of pure creator energy.
The two opponents stood facing each other.
The wind roared across the shattered battlefield.
For several seconds—
Neither moved.
Then—
They attacked.
The collision shook the world.
Both spears struck each other at the same instant.
Void energy and creator energy detonated together.
The explosion split the clouds above.
A massive shockwave tore across the land, flattening forests miles away.
For a moment, the battlefield was consumed by light.
Then the dust slowly cleared.
Both figures were still standing.
Neither had fallen.
Icarus lowered his weapon slightly.
The Creator's Descendant stared at him.
Then—
It stopped attacking.
The battlefield suddenly became silent.
New Nullscript symbols appeared in the air.
Nexus translated them slowly.
["Trial complete."]
The entity's body began dissolving into particles of light.
Its mission had ended.
Before completely disappearing, a small fragment of energy remained floating in the air.
It drifted toward Icarus.
The fragment slowly merged into his body.
Nexus immediately analyzed it.
[Creator fragment absorbed.]
[Void authority increased.]
Icarus said nothing.
Miles away, Seraphine finally approached.
She walked casually across the ruined battlefield, stepping over shattered terrain as if none of it mattered.
When she reached Icarus, she tilted her head slightly.
Her eyes sparkled with amusement.
"That was fun to watch."
Icarus did not respond.
Seraphine smiled faintly.
"You know… most people would have died about ten seconds into that fight."
She paused before continuing.
"But you took almost a month."
Icarus finally spoke.
"It was training."
Seraphine laughed softly.
"Of course it was."
Her gaze lingered on him for a moment longer.
Then she looked toward the distant sky.
For a brief second—
Two enormous presences flickered far beyond the horizon.
The energy was immense.
Nexus detected them instantly.
[Heaven energy signature detected.]
[Hell energy signature detected.]
The signals vanished as quickly as they had appeared.
Seraphine frowned slightly.
"That… felt unpleasant."
Icarus simply turned away.
He showed no concern.
To him—
It was nothing worth thinking about.
But far away…
Beyond the Creator's Dimension…
A meeting was already taking place.
Fifteen Gods sat around a massive celestial table made of light.
Their expressions were cold.
Calculating.
One of them finally spoke.
"The Void is growing stronger."
Another god leaned forward.
"Then we destroy it now."
Before anyone could reply—
The doors of the celestial hall opened.
A tall figure stepped inside.
A Devil Lord.
He smiled slowly as every god in the room turned toward him.
"I bring a proposal."
The room fell silent.
The devil's smile widened.
"An alliance."
"Between Heaven… and Hell."
"To destroy the Void."
