Chapter 20 - Chapter 18: - Lavender Town

Chapter 18: - Lavender Town

After obtaining the Marsh Badge, Lyra wanted to stop in Lavender Town.

"Why do you want to stop in Lavender Town?" Misty asked, "Do you want to capture another Ghost type Pokémon?"

"No not really," Lyra said, "it's because an old friend of mine lives here. So, I want to say hi to him, if that's okay?"

"Of course it's fine Ly." Misty said and Brock agreed.

When they reached Lavender Town, it seemed a bit spooky to Misty and Brock and a mist was rolling in. "Hey, is Lavender Town usually like this Ly?" She asked.

"Well, it does get misty here," Lyra answered, "I've been here before with my mum. But the mist only rolls in at night time. Something doesn't feel right."

Lyra took Brock and Misty to his old friend's house. Lyra's old friend was a boy, two years older than Lyra, named Ken.

"Hiya Ken." Lyra said.

"It's good to see you again Ly-Ly and Pichu." Ken said with a smile and petted Pichu head, she cooed at it.

Lyra introduced Misty and Brock to Ken.

"Nice meeting you all." Ken said.

"Hey Ken what's with all the mist outside?" Lyra asked. "Isn't it a bit early for the mists to be out?"

"You're right lie," Ken said, "it is early, since the mists only come out at night. But I think I know what's going on."

Ken took Lyra, Misty and Brock to a tower. "I remember this tower," Lyra said, "this is Lavender Tower, where Ghost Pokémon live."

"Yes," said Ken, "and this is where the mists are coming from."

"Why is that?" Brock asked.

"I'll tell you." Ken said, "The truth is a ghost seems to be haunting the place. You see a few months ago some Team Rocket members came here to take all the Pokémon from here."

"Oh no." Misty said, "Did they succeed?"

"No, they didn't," Ken said sadly, "but they actually killed a Pokémon."

"No way!" Brock gasped. Both he, Lyra and Misty were horrified with this information, "What Pokémon did they kill?" He asked.

"It was a Marowak," Ken said, "she sacrificed her life to get rid of those Team Rocket members."

"Please tell that they are in jail." Misty hoped.

"They are in jail," said Ken, "but ever since that incident, Marowak's spirit still haunts the tower. And the Gastly, Haunter and Gengar that are in there also haunt it."

Lyra felt uneasy about this, "I have a feeling that the Marowak didn't come back here on purpose." She said looking back at the tower, "I feel that Marowak is still here for something."

"What sort of something?" Misty asked.

"I don't know." Lyra answered, "But I know it's something important to her. I think we need to check the tower."

"I agree with that Ly," Ken said, "we should check it tonight, because the Ghost only reveals itself at night."

Lyra agreed with the plan.

When night fell, Lyra and Ken headed for the tower. Misty and Brock stayed at Ken's house; they didn't fancy checking out the tower. A full moon was out and mists were everywhere; the tower looked spooky. Lyra and Ken bravely entered the tower. It was very dark and quiet in the tower and there was not a soul to be seen.

"Okay," said Ken, "as Lavender Tower is very big, I suggest we split up."

Lyra agreed with that. She decided to check the fifth, sixth and seventh floors, while Ken checked the first, second, third and fourth floors.

Lyra had her Pichu, Pikachu and Charmander with her, Charmander's tail lit up the way. Lyra didn't find anything on the fifth and sixth floors. All she found were rooms filled with old sheeted furniture and dust and cobwebs. She didn't even see a single ghost type.

"This is odd." Lyra said to Pichu, Pikachu and Charmander, "usually even when you take one step into the tower, the Ghost Pokémon come out like crazy. Something strange is going on in this tower. I feel Ghost Pokémon around us." Lyra looked at Gastly, Haunter and Gengar on her PokéDex.

Haunter is a purple Pokémon with a gaseous body. It has a round head with a pair of disembodied hands. Each hand has three-pointed fingers. Its head is flanked by three large, spiked protrusions on either side, and its eyes are large and triangular with small pupils. The gases composing its head curve down to form several pointed teeth framing a pink mouth and a long tongue. Its body tapers into a jagged tail.

Gengar is a dark purple, bipedal Pokémon with a roundish body. It has red eyes and a wide mouth that is usually curled into a sinister grin. Multiple spikes cover its back, and it has large pointed ears. Its arms and legs are short with three digits on both its hands and feet. It also has a stubby tail.

Gastly, the Gas Pokémon.

A Pokémon born from poison gases. It defeats even the largest foes by enveloping them in gas.

Haunter, the Gas Pokémon.

The evolved form of Gastly. It likes to lurk in the dark and tap shoulders with a gaseous hand. Its touch causes endless shuddering.

Gengar, the Shadow Pokémon.

The final evolved form of Gastly. The leer that floats in darkness belongs to a Gengar delighting in casting curses on people.

"Come on Pichu, Pikachu and Charmander let's keep going."

When Lyra reached the seventh floor of the tower, he heard a crying, moaning noise. She opened the door on the seventh floor, and there in the middle of the room was a Pokémon crying. It was crying over some bones. Lyra recognize the crying Pokémon.

Cubone, the Lonely Pokémon.

The pre-evolved form of Marowak. When it thinks of its dead mother, it cries. Its crying makes the skull it wears rattle hollowly.

"I get it," Lyra whispered in sadness, "the Marowak that Team Rocket killed was this Cubone's mother."

Pichu, Pikachu and Charmander sighed in sadness.

Lyra walked up to Cubone, Cubone heard Lyra walking towards him and held his arms in front of him, growling. "It's okay Cubone," Lyra spoke softly, "I'm not here to harm you. Those bones are your mother's, right?" Cubone nodded faintly. "I heard everything about what Team Rocket did to her. I can tell she was a great mother, since it's clear that she died to save your life."

Lyra slowly and carefully picked up Cubone and gave it a hug. Cubone struggled for Lyra to put it down, but Lyra held it tight and rubbed its skull gently. "Hey it's okay. Everything will be okay." Cubone listened to Lyra's kind words and felt her warm hands, then cried some more tears and held onto Lyra tight.

Lyra chuckled and continued of hugging and rubbing Cubone. Pichu, Pikachu and Charmander watched this and smiled, knowing their trainer was very kind.

Just then three figures appeared in front of Lyra, it was Gastly, Haunter and Gengar. They had watched Lyra being kind and loving to Cubone and were happy to see such a nice human.

Lyra was nervous and worried that they would be cross for invading their territory. "I'm sorry if I had disturbed you," she apologized, "if you want me to leave, I'll do so."

But the three ghosts were smiling, saying in their language, that Lyra was welcomed here and happy that she was caring for Cubone. "Hey you three," Lyra said, "I heard that this Cubone's mother, Marowak, is haunting this place, is that right?"

The ghost Pokémon said, in their language, that Marowak was worried for her baby and didn't want to leave it alone and helpless.

"I knew it. Marowak stayed behind to protect her baby from harm. We need to sort this out." Lyra said.

Lyra, Cubone and the ghost Pokémon met up with Ken on the first floor and Lyra told Ken what had happened.

"I see," Ken said, "so Marowak was still here for a reason."

The Cubone was feeling relaxed in Lyra's arms.

"What should we do about Marowak?" Lyra asked.

"I don't know," Ken sighs, "I think the only thing we can do is help the Marowak's spirit move on. Would you mind helping me with that Ly?" He asked her.

" Of course," Lyra replied, "besides I actually helped two spirits move on in Maiden's peak some time ago."

"All right then," Ken said, "we need to search for the Marowak. Gastly, Haunter and Gengar we need your help too."

Gastly, Haunter and Gengar agreed to help.

Lyra felt a chilling aura around them, "Show yourself Marowak!" She shouted.

Then a chilling mist surrounded them.

Marowak is a bipedal Pokémon with a spike located on its tail. On its stomach, Marowak is very light brown in color, as opposed to most its body, which is a darker brown. Two small claws, one on each hand, serve as its thumbs, and two large nails make up its toes. Marowak's head is composed of the skull it once wore as a mask. It can no longer remove the skull, as it is now a direct body part. Marowak's jaw is composed of bone, and its nostrils are located on the nose of the skull. Its triangular eyes are brown and are also located on the skull.

"That's Marowak, alright." Ken said.

Marowak, the Bone Keeper Pokémon.

The evolved form of Cubone. Despite its small size, its offensive and defensive strength is impressive.

When Cubone saw his mother, he jumped out of Lyra's arms and ran to her. The ghost Marowak comforted her son, she looked at Lyra and bowed her head to her.

"I think she's thanking you for caring for her child Ly." Ken said.

"You're welcome." Lyra said to Marowak with a smile.

Then Marowak started to speak, in her language.

"Marowak is saying that she's leaving her baby in your care. But you understand right Ly?" Ken said/asked. Lyra was amazed that Marowak had chosen her to look after Cubone. "She's also saying that she wants us to battle her. The only way for her spirit to be free is be defeated in a Pokémon battle."

"If that is how she will be able to rest in peace, let's do it." Lyra said.

Lyra and Ken got ready to battle Marowak.

Pichu, Pikachu, Charmander, Gastly, Haunter and Gengar watched from the sides with Cubone.

"How shall we do this?" Lyra asked looking at her friend.

"I think we shall do this with you and me using a Pokémon each," Ken said, "I know it will be two vs one, but it will help Marowak rest in peace quickly."

Ken sent out a Poliwag, as Marowak was weak against water, Poliwag would do the trick. Lyra sent out her Shiny Eevee.

"Poliwag use Bubble." Ken said.

"Use Swift Eevee." Lyra said, Poliwags bubbles and Eevee's stars both hit Marowak, it was a direct hit. Marowak growled in a lot of pain.

"She's starting to get weak," said Ken, "if we keep doing attacks like this, we'll win."

"All right then." Lyra said, Cubone did look upset about seeing his mother hurt, but knew this was for his mother's own good.

Marowak threw her bone for a boomerang attack. Of course that did hurt Poliwag, Eevee was able to dodge it at the last second, but they still stood strong.

"Stay strong Poliwag." said Ken.

"You can do it Eevee." Lyra said, "Time to show them what you are made off."

"Eevee!" Suddenly Eevee started to glow. Eevee body grew and changed; it has a sleek black body with four slender legs and yellow eyes. There are two pairs of pointed teeth visible when its mouth is open, one in the upper jaw and one in the lower. It has long pointed ears and a bushy tail, each with a deep sky-blue band around them. Its forehead and legs have blue rings on them. Its deep sky-blue markings glow at night and strike fear into anyone nearby.

Umbreon!" It cried out.

Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokémon.

The evolved form of Eevee. The rings of Umbreon's body glow faintly when exposed to the moon's aura, and it gains a mysterious power.

Dark Type

Female

New Moves: Dark Pulse, Water Pulse, Confuse Ray, Feint Attack, Shadow Claw, Iron Tail and Hyper Beam.

Ability: Synchronize

Hidden Ability: Inner-Focus

- This Umbreon is a Shiny Pokémon.

"Eevee you've evolved into Umbreon!" Lyra shouted in excitement.

Ken was amazed by this new evolution.

"Okay Umbreon use Dark Pulse." Lyra said. Umbreon fired a beam of dark purple circles at Marowak. That really did hurt Marowak.

"Let's attack one more time," said Ken, "Poliwag, Bubble one more time."

"Umbreon use Water Pulse to power up the Bubble." Lyra said.

Both bubbles and water pulse combination did major damage to Marowak, and then Marowak was defeated.

When Marowak lost, her spirit faded away.

"It's over," said Ken, "Marowak's spirit is finally at peace."

Cubone started to cry for his mother, but Lyra picked it up and gave it a hug.

Gastly, Haunter and Gengar floated over to Lyra and Ken.

"Well, you three," said Ken, "Lavender Tower is now all yours again."

The three Ghost Pokémon looked at each other, they began to grinned mischievously and each off them held a PokéBall.

"Hey where did you guys get the PokéBalls from?" Lyra asked and looked at her belt where three of her empty PokéBalls were missing, "Hey those are mine. Wait you three?!"

Gastly, Haunter and Gengar tap each other and when into the PokéBalls and got teleported away.

Lyra, Pichu, Pikachu, Charmander, Cubone and Ken was standing there dumbfound and speechless of what just happen.

Then Ken suddenly busted into laughing. "Hahahaha! Congratulations Ly-ly you just caught yourself three Ghost Pokémon! Hahahaha!" He said laughing.

"Ken..." Lyra whined, "It not funny, they just took and get caught." She said not minding the fact that her words make no sense.

"Yeah, I know." He grinned.

"Oh man!" Lyra shouted out.

When Lyra and Ken got back to Ken's house, they told Misty and Brock what had happened and they laugh what happen to the ghost Pokémon apparently X-Dexter had recorded the whole scene because it was mysterious.

"That makes sense," Brock said as they finished watching the video, "as Marowak loved Cubone she would want to stay and protect her baby."

"So, you're going to take Cubone ly?" Misty asked.

"Yep," said Lyra, "besides I don't think Cubone here would want me to leave."

Cubone was snuggling up in Lyra's arms.

"It seems to me Lyra that you have now become Cubone's adoptive mother," Brock teased, "and once your two eggs hatches, well you really will be a Poképarent."

Lyra felt embarrassed and blushes madly, Misty and Ken chuckled at that.

Suddenly a glow came from Lyra's backpack; it was Lyra's blue egg. "Uh-oh," said Brock, "it must have heard me and now it is hatching."

The egg hatched into a serpentine-like Pokémon with a blue body and a white underside. It has white, three-pronged fins on the sides of its head and a white bump on its forehead. Above its large, round, white snout are oval, purple eyes.

"Tini?" It cried out.

"No way," gasped Brock, "it's a Dratini."

Dratini, the Dragon Pokémon.

Dratini sheds its skin as it grows, often doing so while hidden behind large powerful waterfalls.

Lyra couldn't believe it; Dratini were really rare and hard to find. She had even seen Lance, from the Elite four, with a Dragonite. 'Cool, now I will have a Dragonite of my own in the future.' She thought.

Lyra smiled at Dratini. "Hi Dratini," she said, "I'm your mother."

Dratini cooed and rubbed its face against Lyra's cheek. It was obvious that Dratini liked Lyra right away. Cubone snuggled into Lyra's chest some more, trying to gain more attention from his new mother."

"Oh dear," Brock teased "now you have two babies on your hands. Let's just hope that your second egg doesn't hatch soon or you'll end up with three babies on your hand."

Lyra, Ken and Misty laughed at that comment.

After spending the rest of the night at Ken's house, Lyra, Misty and Brock bid farewell to Ken and left Lavender Town.

1. I re-watched Pokémon Origins episodes and decide to have Lavender Town have the same setting. I wanted to give Lyra some more ghost Pokémon so I decide to have Gastly, Haunter and Gengar as an additional toward the end.
