Chapter 32: Finding Fossils?
The gang eventually reached Grampa Canyon, which was crowded with people carrying picks and shovels. Lyra explained that fossils had recently been found there.
"Can we hunt for fossils too, please?" Tomo asked. Lyra, Misty, and Brock agreed. However, Lyra's rival Gary suddenly turned up.
"Why, hello Lulu-boy," Gary said arrogantly. "Searching for fossils? You're wasting your time." He left, much to Tomo's annoyance.
Unknown to them, Team Rocket was also there, planning to use dynamite to find fossils easily. Meanwhile, Brock found two unusual rocks. An old man, who was a fossil expert, examined them. "Congratulations! You found a Dome Fossil and a Helix Fossil. Take these to a scientist to obtain a Kabuto and Omanyte."
Suddenly, Team Rocket appeared. Lyra demanded to know what they were doing. As Meowth lit the fuse, Lyra released Wartortle. She and Tomo chased the fuse, but they were too late. The dynamite exploded, and Lyra, Tomo, and Team Rocket fell into a deep hole.
Lyra and Tomo found themselves in a dark underground cave. "Tomo! Are you alright?" Lyra asked.
"I'm alright, Big Sis," Tomo replied. They realized they had been separated from their Pokémon and friends during the blast. Suddenly, they ran into Team Rocket.
"Hey, twerp!" Jessie shouted. "It's your fault we're trapped!"
"My fault? You're the ones who lit the dynamite!" Lyra shouted back. Their argument was interrupted by low growls as they were confronted by ancient Fossil Pokémon: Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, and Kabutops.
"The explosion must have woken them up," Jessie said, shaking. Team Rocket sent out Arbok and Weezing to try and catch them. Meanwhile, Lyra and Tomo were cornered by a second group of fossils.
"Since Fighting beats Rock types, I choose you: Primeape, Lucario, and Deerling!" Lyra cried. "Primeape, use Dynamic Punch! Lucario, High Jump Kick! Deerling, Jump Kick!" The fossils were hit hard. "Deerling, finish them with Double Kick!"
The Fossil Pokémon fainted. Lyra used four Poké Balls to catch a Kabuto, Kabutops, Omanyte, and Omastar. Suddenly, Deerling began to glow and evolved into Sawsbuck. Lyra and Tomo were relieved, but Team Rocket was still struggling.
Outside, Misty and Brock were digging through the rubble with the help of their Pokémon. Inside, a loud roar suddenly echoed, scaring the other Fossil Pokémon away. A reptilian, bipedal Pokémon with large wings appeared.
"Aerodactyl," Lyra whispered in horror. "Run!"
Aerodactyl caught up and grabbed Lyra in its claws. It flew out of the hole just as Tomo reached Lyra's rucksack. He found four of her Poké Balls and released Charmeleon, Swablu, Shelgon, and Slaking.
"Swablu! Lyra needs help!" Tomo shouted. Swablu took off, but Aerodactyl was too fast. Seeing Lyra in danger, Charmeleon and Swablu both began to glow with a brilliant light.
Charmeleon evolved into Charizard, and Swablu evolved into Altaria. Charizard took off immediately to save Lyra. Meanwhile, Slaking threw Shelgon toward Aerodactyl. During the flight, Shelgon also began to glow and evolved into Salamence.
Charizard and Altaria distracted Aerodactyl with Flamethrower. While it was blinded, Salamence charged with a powerful Giga Impact. Aerodactyl dropped Lyra, and Charizard dove down to catch her safely.
"Thank you, Charizard, Altaria, and Salamence!" Lyra cheered. She commanded them to use a triple Fire Blast to finish the battle. Aerodactyl crashed to the ground, and Lyra caught it in a Poké Ball.
As they landed, Lyra found a mysterious white Pokémon egg with red and blue triangles. Officer Jenny arrived shortly after and banned further digging in the canyon. She drove the gang to the hospital to make sure Lyra was okay.
Lyra was fine. When she called Professor Oak, he was thrilled about her new Fossil Pokémon and the incredible triple evolution. Lyra then handed the mysterious egg to Misty.
"I already have two eggs," Lyra said. "Besides, I know you've always wanted an infant Pokémon of your own."
Misty hugged Lyra in gratitude. The gang settled down for the night with new Pokémon on their team, while Team Rocket retreated, unhappy with their latest failure.
Author's Notes:
I hated Charizard being disobedient in the anime; it sucked. He should have listened to Ash from the beginning. So, Lyra's Charizard listens to her.
In the manga, Brock had a Fossil Pokémon, but not in the anime. I decided he should have them here.
Togepi is for Misty because Lyra already has two eggs.
I will provide a list of the gang's Pokémon before the Indigo League chapter.
