The forest had always whispered.
Not in words—never in words—but in something deeper. Something ancient. A language that only fear understood.
Arjun had grown up hearing stories about it.
"Never go into the forest after sunset," his grandmother used to warn, her voice trembling slightly. "That is when the shadows walk."
He used to laugh.
Now, standing at the edge of that very forest, under a sky bruised purple with the coming night, he wasn't laughing anymore.
The village of Devgarh was quiet—too quiet.
The kind of quiet that made your ears ring.
Arjun tightened his grip on the flashlight. The beam flickered once, then steadied, cutting through the thick darkness between the trees.
Behind him, his friend Kabir called out nervously,
"Bro… I still think this is a bad idea."
Arjun smirked, though his heart was beating faster than he liked.
"Relax. It's just a forest. Not some horror movie."
Kabir didn't reply.
Because deep down, they both knew—this wasn't just any forest.
It started with the animals.
Goats torn apart.
Dogs howling all night.
Then came the footprints.
Huge. Deep. Not human… not animal either.
And then—people started disappearing.
That's why Arjun was here.
Not because he was brave.
But because he needed answers.
The moment they stepped inside the forest, the temperature dropped.
The air turned cold… unnaturally cold.
Leaves crunched under their feet, echoing far louder than they should have.
Kabir whispered,
"Do you hear that?"
Arjun paused.
At first—nothing.
Then—
A low… distant growl.
Not loud.
Not close.
But enough to freeze the blood in his veins.
"Let's go back," Kabir said immediately.
Arjun shook his head.
"No. We're already here."
That was his first mistake.
They walked deeper.
The trees grew taller. Thicker. Twisted like they had seen too much.
The flashlight flickered again.
And then—
It went out.
Darkness swallowed them whole.
Kabir panicked.
"Arjun! Turn it back on!"
"I'm trying!"
He hit the flashlight against his palm.
Once.
Twice.
Then—
Click.
The light came back.
And that's when they saw it.
A carcass.
Fresh.
A deer… or what used to be one.
Its body was ripped open, ribs exposed, blood still glistening under the pale moonlight.
Kabir gagged.
"Oh God…"
Arjun stepped closer.
Something about it felt wrong.
The wounds weren't clean.
They were savage.
Like something had enjoyed tearing it apart.
Then they heard it again.
Closer this time.
A growl.
Low.
Heavy.
Alive.
Kabir grabbed Arjun's arm.
"We're not alone."
Slowly… very slowly…
Arjun turned around.
And his world changed forever.
At first, all he saw were eyes.
Glowing.
Golden.
Burning in the darkness.
Then it stepped forward.
It was massive.
At least seven feet tall.
Covered in dark, matted fur.
Its body was muscular… but twisted, unnatural.
Its face—
Half wolf.
Half something else.
Something human.
Arjun couldn't breathe.
His mind refused to accept what he was seeing.
This wasn't possible.
This wasn't real.
The creature tilted its head… almost curiously.
Then it smiled.
Not like an animal.
Like something that understood.
Kabir screamed.
And ran.
"WAIT!" Arjun shouted.
But it was too late.
The creature moved.
Not fast.
Not rushed.
Just one step—
And suddenly it was gone.
A second later—
A scream echoed through the forest.
Kabir's scream.
Then silence.
Arjun stood frozen.
His legs refused to move.
His brain refused to think.
Then—
Something warm dripped onto his hand.
He looked down.
Blood.
He turned slowly.
And there it was.
Standing right behind him.
Before he could react—
The creature lunged.
Pain exploded across his shoulder as claws tore into his flesh.
Arjun screamed, falling to the ground.
The world spun.
His vision blurred.
The last thing he saw—
Was the creature staring at him.
Not with hunger.
But with something far worse.
Recognition.
Then everything went dark.
