Meanwhile, Alan pressed the accelerator pedal and his car raced toward a certain destination. The previous night, he had successfully dug out Emily Bennett's grimoire from the grave of Giuseppe Salvatore. It was one of his planned tasks completed.
More than half of the spells in the grimoire were basic spells which Alan had already learned from the grimoire of his ancestors. The remaining were complex and powerful spells, and though he had not found them yet in his ancestors' grimoire, he was certain that he would surely find them. They were not anything really unique or special. Even so, the range of spells in the Grimoire had established that Emily Bennet had been a very powerful witch.
Alan's purpose in digging out Emily's grimoire had one particular goal. That was to know about the spell which she had used to seal the vampires in the tomb. Sealing spells were fairly common, but every witch or warlock had his or her own unique methods, and Emily, being a powerful witch, had included a lot of complexity in it. And considering what she had been sealing inside the tomb, Vampires, Emily had gone the extra mile in the spell, and it would have been an extremely difficult task to unseal it without having knowledge of her spells.
The only thing that Alan was unsure about was Emily's reaction. In the canon, she had made certain appearances from the Other Side using her locket and did not want for the tomb to be opened. She had gone as far as destroying the locket, which was thought to be the only method of unsealing the tomb. Only later was it discovered that the grimoire too contained hints on opening the tomb.
But now that he had dug out her grimoire and had his own plans regarding the tomb and the vampires inside it, he was not sure how she was going to react. Would she try to interrupt him from the Other Side? Would she make any move once her locket came into the picture? Not that he was afraid or even slightly nervous; he was just curious and intrigued. And he was also curious about the part Bonnie would play in all of this.
It took another ten minutes for Alan to reach his destination. One of the other iconic locations of Mystic Falls. A place where a lot of plots of the Vampire Diaries had unfolded. The Wickery Bridge.
Alan parked his car just before the bridge, right next to the sign which read Wickery Bridge, Mystic Falls.
The board sign which was also made of the white oak tree. The wood which could kill even the Originals. Alan stepped out of his car and approached the sign. He placed his hand on the wood and channeled his Wolverine powers.
A sharp pain surged through Alan's bones as the white oak started being absorbed, coating over his entire skeleton frame.
"Ahh!" Alan let out a small grunt as wave after wave of pain assaulted his body. The process continued for a couple of minutes before the pain receded and Alan pulled his hands back from the wooden sign.
"Ahh!" Alan let out another grunt as his body shivered slightly. He felt his bones getting stronger, though not by much, just by a bit. Steel would have made him stronger, but in a world dominated by vampires, a claw made of white oak was the best choice.
Alan felt his palms, and with a simple will of his own, wooden claws burst out from both his knuckles, tearing his muscles and skin. It was painful, but not something that would bother him. Besides, he would get used to it.
He raised his right hand, and with a swipe, the sign was cleaved from its stand as it fell with a thud. He retracted his claws and the torn muscles and skin healed in a single instant. He then uprooted both the legs of the stand on which the sign had been set up. It too had been made of white oak. He placed all three wooden pieces in the trunk and returned to the driver's seat.
Alan pressed the pedal and the car raced once again toward its new destination.
The car this time arrived at the second most sprawling and luxurious estate in Mystic Falls after the Alejandro Mansion. It was the Lockwood Mansion.
Alan parked his car in the driveway, stepped out of the car, approached the door, and rang the doorbell.
A couple of minutes later, the door was pulled inward and a lady appeared in front of Alan. Carol Lockwood.
"Oh! Alan!" she smiled as a bright expression appeared on her face. "What a pleasant surprise. I did not know that you would be coming to our house."
"Neither did I," Alan remarked cheekily. "Just made my plan on the way."
Carol giggled as she stepped back slightly, creating space for Alan to enter.
"Come in," she called, and Alan walked inside as Carol closed the door behind him and invited him to take a seat. "Have a seat!"
Alan nodded as Carol walked toward the kitchen and returned a couple of minutes later with two cups of coffee, which she placed on the table in front of him.
"Coffee!" she said.
Alan nodded and picked it up, giving a long distance toast to Carol, who cheered back.
"So," she asked. "How are you settling in Mystic Falls? Tyler told me that you were able to make a few friends and even attended the party the previous night in the woods. Was it fun?"
"I am doing absolutely fine," Alan replied. "And some of the credit also goes to Tyler."
"Oh!" Carol chuckled. "Finally, he is doing something useful."
"Is Mr. Lockwood not at home?" Alan asked, shifting the topic after a couple of moments of silence.
"No," she replied. "He has gone on official duty. As a mayor, he has a lot on his plate. Is something the matter?"
"Nothing serious," Alan replied. "I just wanted to discuss something."
"But now that he is not here," he continued, "I think I can discuss it with you."
"Yes," she said, leaning towards him with curiosity. "What is it?
