Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: The Honorary Knight Proposal

Relations between the Seven Nations of Teyvat were complicated.

Even the seven branches of the Adventurers' Guild didn't clearly understand each nation's diplomatic stance toward the others.

Because of that, when the guild communicated internally, they avoided the official governments of each nation—such as:

the Knights of Favonius in Mondstadt

the Fatui in Snezhnaya

This prevented unnecessary trouble and protected the guild's intelligence.

Therefore, the guild maintained its own secret communication routes.

Jiang Chen intended to use that route to send a letter to Fischl.

As for issuing a commission for adventurers to deliver the letter?

Not a chance.

Hiring a random merchant caravan would be more reliable.

Many adventurers in Teyvat were… a little eccentric.

Even if the reward was high, they often ignored tasks that lacked excitement.

They might encounter something interesting on the road and forget the mission entirely.

A trip that should take one month could easily stretch into half a year.

"This letter is for Investigator Fischl, right?"

Katheryne asked.

Fischl wasn't an ordinary adventurer recruited by the guild.

She was guild staff.

And within the Adventurers' Guild, the reputation of the "Prinzessin der Verurteilung" was quite high.

"Since it's for internal personnel, there's a discount."

"To send it to Inazuma City, the cost will be 56,000 Mora."

Katheryne calculated.

"Whoa!?"

Paimon was shocked.

Sending a single letter cost 56,000 Mora?

How long would it take her to save that much?

Apparently she had completely forgotten how much Mora worth of food she had eaten the night before.

Jiang Chen took out several bank notes.

"Bills from the Northland Bank. That's fine, right?"

"Of course."

Katheryne counted the notes and put them away along with the envelope.

"You can leave the rest to us."

"Alright."

Jiang Chen nodded.

"That expensive?"

Lumine was also surprised.

She had walked around the market that morning and understood what that amount meant.

But then she remembered Jiang Chen was the owner of Good Hunter.

That made more sense.

The restaurant itself wasn't cheap either.

"It's an international delivery using a secret route. That's normal."

Jiang Chen said.

He then led Lumine and Paimon toward the Knights of Favonius headquarters.

Mondstadt was built on stone foundations rising from a lake.

To save space, the city had been designed with tiered levels.

Stairs could be found everywhere.

When they reached the middle platform, Paimon suddenly shouted:

"Jiang Chen! Lumine! Look!"

She pointed toward a corner of the Goth Grand Hotel.

"Is Acting Grand Master Jean arguing with someone?"

Her curiosity exploded.

She flew over immediately.

Jiang Chen and Lumine had no choice but to follow.

"The other party is from the Fatui."

Jiang Chen said.

Fatui uniforms were easy to recognize.

Especially the female members—their black stockings were very eye-catching.

The two people speaking weren't even trying to lower their voices.

It sounded like a formal negotiation.

"Our stance is simple."

"If the Knights of Favonius cannot eliminate the rampaging dragon immediately, perhaps Mondstadt's defense should be handed over to the Fatui."

The Fatui diplomat said.

"The dragon disaster can be handled easily—if you allow us to deal with that beast—"

"Beast?"

Jean interrupted her.

The diplomat didn't understand why Jean's normally heroic expression suddenly contained a trace of anger.

"Hmm? Acting Grand Master, what do you mean?"

She asked.

Jean took a deep breath to calm herself.

"I hope your diplomats can maintain a more professional attitude."

"You intend to deal with one of Mondstadt's Four Winds Guardians?"

"I don't wish to hear such nonsense in front of the Knights of Favonius."

Jean's tone was extremely firm.

The diplomat realized why Jean had suddenly gotten angry.

She covered her mouth and laughed lightly.

"It's not that outrageous."

"However, it seems the Acting Grand Master isn't in the mood for proper negotiations today."

"Let's end our discussion here."

She crossed her arms.

"So today's result is that both sides honestly exchanged constructive opinions, correct?"

"I will record it truthfully."

The diplomat glanced at the crowd of onlookers.

Her gaze lingered briefly on Lumine and Paimon.

With a faint smile, she returned to the Goth Grand Hotel.

Jean also noticed them.

"Jiang Chen, Lumine."

"I'm sorry you had to witness that."

Jean said.

"The Fatui really are used to being arrogant."

Jiang Chen shook his head.

"Are we still going to the Knights' headquarters?"

"Of course."

"It would be disrespectful to receive you—both… actually three of you—here."

Jean apologized.

Only by meeting them in the Grand Master's Office did she feel she could properly show respect.

After dispersing the crowd, the group climbed the stairs to the Knights of Favonius headquarters.

Grand Master's Office

Jean stood behind the desk and placed one hand over her chest in a formal salute.

"Thank you for your assistance during yesterday's operation."

"The elemental circulation around the city has finally stabilized."

"The aftermath of Stormterror's attack has temporarily subsided."

As she spoke, she subconsciously glanced at someone smiling faintly as if watching her embarrassment.

A faint blush crossed Jean's refined face.

This guy is probably laughing at how stiff I am again.

Jean quietly steadied her emotions and continued.

"However, as you saw just now…"

"The pressure from the Fatui delegation has reached a point where it is difficult to ignore."

"This brings me to my second request."

"Jiang Chen. Lumine."

"Please accept the title of Honorary Knight of the Knights of Favonius, along with my gratitude."

"And I ask that you assist us once again…"

"…in uncovering the truth behind Stormterror's attack on Mondstadt."
