Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Hollow Pulse Ritual

Location: Ancestral Void Chamber – Midnight

The chamber was colder than ice.

Qin Huaian stood in the center of a black stone formation etched with ancient Void runes—symbols of silence, death, and rebirth. Around him floated twelve white candles, each burning with a still, silver-blue flame. There was no sound. No warmth. No life.

Only the beginning of death.

Qin Fengyuan stood at the edge of the formation, holding a small obsidian talisman. His face was calm, but his eyes—sharp as steel—never left the boy.

"The Hollow Pulse Ritual," he spoke softly, "is the first trial of the Void Path. You must stop your heart. Willingly. You must die... and return."

Huaian's fingers trembled.

He was six years old.

But fear had long since burned away from his soul.

"I'm ready," he whispered.

Fengyuan nodded once.

The elder raised the talisman and chanted an ancient incantation. The runes below Huaian's feet lit up, then slowly darkened to complete blackness. Each candle flared, and a soft wind circled him—not from this world, but from the space between it.

Huaian sat cross-legged and closed his eyes. He focused on his breath.

> Inhale. Silence.

Exhale. Stillness.

He did not draw qi into his body.

Instead, he pushed everything out—pain, memory, desire. Even the weak fragments of Void Flame in his dantian were quiet now, shrinking into nothing.

His body grew numb.

His breath slowed.

His heartbeat began to fade…

Thump.

Thump.

Nothing.

Fengyuan's fingers tensed. "Now comes the truth."

🕯️ Spiritual Trial Begins

Within Huaian's soul-sea, everything turned black.

He floated through endless darkness, with no sky, no floor, no direction. It was a space without laws, without weight. His body was gone. His thoughts faded.

Only a single flame remained.

Small. Blue. Flickering.

It was the Void Flame.

But now it pulsed with rhythm—beating in place of his heart. Each pulse echoed through the dark world around him.

Suddenly, the darkness stirred.

A massive eye opened in the void. A shadowy figure, ancient and formless, reached toward him. Its voice was like thunder, yet whispered inside his skull.

> "You… walk the path of that which should not exist."

> "You, who were abandoned…"

> "Will you offer your soul to the Void… in exchange for power?"

Huaian's fists clenched, even in spirit-form.

"No," he said. "I'll give you nothing."

The void trembled.

> "Then you are brave. Or foolish."

> "So be it."

The flame within him exploded.

A second later, his body snapped upright in the real world, gasping as if drowning.

His eyes glowed faintly—void silver.

His pulse returned.

But it was not a normal heartbeat.

It was a Void Pulse.

His heart no longer beats like a normal cultivator's.

He can now enter death-meditation at will.

Begins producing Void Mist, a formless energy immune to spiritual detection.

Fengyuan exhaled slowly.

"You survived."

Huaian collapsed, but he was alive.

In that moment, the ancient chamber recognized him. The floor lit up in a faint spiral pattern, and the wall behind him split open—revealing a hidden path, one that hadn't opened in over 300 years.

Even Fengyuan's eyes widened.

> "You… are more than I expected."
