When it came to Ash disliking certain perfumes, Erika really couldn't fault him. What Ash disliked were mixed, synthetic perfumes. Because those perfumes were manufactured using industrial methods, they were sheer torture to Ash's nose, which was specifically attuned to smelling medicinal herbs. What Ash liked were the perfumes made from plant extracts refined right here at Erika's place. At the very least, those botanical fragrances were vastly superior to industrially mixed synthetic perfumes.
"Alright, that's enough. I'll purchase all these herbs. Please prepare more of them for me in the future." After finally confirming the materials he needed, Ash took a document handed over by a female clerk and signed his name.
"By the way, doesn't the Joy family usually handle purchasing medicinal herbs? Why did you come in person this time?" Seeing that Ash was done, Erika voiced her confusion.
Ash replied somewhat helplessly, "I'm using this batch to make a new type of potion, so I needed to handle it personally. And since I just started my journey anyway, I figured I could take care of it along the way."
Hearing that Ash was on a journey, Erika couldn't help but ask, "Does that mean you're going to challenge my Celadon Gym?"
"Yeah, I'll be heading over to challenge it in a bit."
"Wait a minute! I'm not a suspicious person! Really! Believe me!"
Just as the two were talking, a noisy commotion broke out outside the perfume shop. Following that, Ash and Erika watched as a group of police officers escorted a man away.
"I just wanted to buy some perfume!"
"Hmph! We've been watching you for a while now! You pervert, pressing your face against the glass window the whole time! Don't think we couldn't see you! Let's go!"
"I've been wronged! Really!"
Escorted by the squad of police officers, the pervert was hauled away. But Ash couldn't shake the feeling that the voice sounded incredibly familiar.
"How scary! To think there's actually a pervert in Celadon City." Erika covered her mouth, a bit frightened.
Ash, however, said rather speechlessly, "Please, you have a Gloom, don't you? If it lets out its stench, I reckon no pervert would dare come near you."
"At a time like this, aren't you supposed to say something like, 'I will protect you'?"
"I only protect my women." Ash said this with a lofty and unapproachable expression, yet Erika looked at him like she really wanted to hit him.
Just as Erika was left speechless, Misty finally came out, holding a bottle of custom-made perfume in her hand.
"Swipe the card!"
Seeing Ash's behavior like a super-rich tycoon, Erika couldn't even be bothered to retort anymore. Misty, on the other hand, was a little at a loss, as this custom perfume was extremely expensive.
Seeing Misty like this, Ash comforted her, "Don't worry, the one thing I have plenty of is money."
"But..."
"Alright, let's just leave it at that. To be honest, I hate the smell of industrial synthetic perfumes, which is why I had them custom-made for you. As a pharmacist, my nose is very precious to me."
Faced with Ash's slightly forceful attitude, Misty could only blush and accept the gift.
"Thank you, Ash."
"Like I said, I did it for the sake of my own nose. Well then, let's head to the Celadon Gym now. It's perfect since Erika is here too."

"Your older sisters told me, of course. Since we're heading to my Celadon Gym now, I'll tell you all about it on the way. Let's ignore this guy who has to wear a mask just to go outside." Saying this, Erika had already grabbed Misty and was pulling her outside.
Ash put his mask back on and said, "Perfect timing. I'm going to look for Brock. He still hasn't shown up, and I really hope he wasn't the one who got arrested..."
Thinking about the arrested pervert earlier and the familiar voice, Ash realized there was a very high chance that Brock was the pervert.
