The wind outside had picked up by the time Cassian, Elara, and Aurora left the dormitory complex. Leaves scattered across the pathways as unstable mana currents drifted faintly through the air. The dormitory incidents had been contained, but the atmosphere around Ravencrest still felt tense, like the world itself hadn't finished settling after the Mana Wave.
Cassian glanced down at the small map projected from Elara's sensor device.
Three markers remained.
Engineering Labs.
Library Basement.
Maintenance Tunnels.
Aurora leaned over the screen as they walked.
"So which one is the fun one?" she asked.
Elara tapped the Engineering Labs marker.
"This."
Aurora smirked. "Thought so."
Cassian wasn't surprised either. Engineering buildings contained heavy machinery, reinforced structures, and large underground infrastructure. If mana fractures formed anywhere on campus, places like that were prime candidates.
The labs stood near the northern edge of Ravencrest, a collection of modern concrete and glass structures connected by covered walkways. Normally it would have been buzzing with students working on projects late into the night.
Now it looked abandoned.
But the moment Cassian stepped closer, he felt something.
A low vibration beneath the ground.
Not quite like the dungeon resonance he controlled.
Something rougher.
Unstable.
Elara frowned as her sensor began flashing.
"Mana output increasing."
Aurora cracked her knuckles again. "Finally."
Cassian stepped toward the entrance doors, which hung crookedly from their hinges as if something had forced its way out.
"Stay alert," he said.
They stepped inside.
The lobby was a mess.
Tables overturned.
Computer screens shattered.
Several scorch marks lined the walls where bursts of energy had struck.
Aurora whistled.
"Looks like someone had a bad day."
Cassian crouched near one of the scorch marks and placed his hand against the floor.
The mana here was chaotic.
Then the system chimed.
[Warning]
[Micro-Fracture Detected]
[Spawn Point Active]
Aurora immediately grinned.
"There it is."
A deep scraping sound echoed from deeper in the building.
Something heavy was moving.
Cassian stood slowly.
"Engineering lab B wing," Elara said quietly, watching the sensor map.
"That's where the fracture is strongest."
They moved quickly through the corridors.
The farther they went, the more warped the environment became. Metal support beams had twisted slightly, and strange crystalline formations had begun growing from the walls where mana condensed into physical matter.
Aurora ran a finger along one of the formations.
"Mana crystals already?"
Elara nodded.
"Localized condensation. If left alone long enough, this area could evolve into a full dungeon."
Cassian studied the crystals carefully.
Then the scraping sound came again.
Closer this time.
Aurora's smile widened.
"Oh good."
Something burst through the far doorway.
A creature roughly the size of a large dog lunged into the hallway. Its body looked like a hybrid between a wolf and a mass of jagged stone. Cracks along its body glowed with faint red energy.
Cassian's system reacted immediately.
[Enemy Detected]
[Stonefang Ravager – Level 11]
Aurora stepped forward without hesitation.
"Mine."
The beast roared and charged.
Aurora moved like a blur.
Her body twisted sideways just before the creature collided with her, and she drove her fist straight into its jaw with explosive force.
The impact sent the monster crashing across the hallway.
[Damage Dealt]
Aurora didn't stop.
She launched forward again, delivering a spinning kick that shattered part of the creature's rocky armor.
The beast recovered quickly and snapped its jaws toward her arm.
Aurora blocked with her forearm and slammed her elbow down onto its skull.
Stone cracked.
The Ravager collapsed.
[Enemy Eliminated]
Aurora shook her hand.
"Not bad."
Cassian was already scanning the hallway.
"That wasn't the only one."
Right on cue, two more creatures crawled out of the fractured laboratory door.
[Stonefang Ravager – Level 10]
[Stonefang Ravager – Level 12]
Aurora laughed lightly.
"Oh, now we're talking."
Cassian raised his hand.
[Mana Construct Activated]
Blue lines surged across the hallway floor again, forming a structured combat grid.
[Mana Consumed: 18]
The Ravagers charged simultaneously.
Aurora intercepted the first one while Cassian redirected mana pressure beneath the second creature, causing the floor beneath it to shift slightly.
The monster stumbled.
Elara seized the moment.
She extended her hand and released a precise mana pulse that struck directly into the crack along its chest.
The energy surged inside the creature's core.
The Ravager exploded into fragments of stone.
Aurora finished her opponent with a crushing downward punch.
[Enemy Eliminated]
Silence returned to the hallway.
Aurora rolled her shoulders.
"Warm-up complete."
Cassian walked toward the broken laboratory door where the monsters had emerged.
Inside, the entire room had collapsed inward slightly.
At the center of the floor, a small tear hovered in midair like a crack in reality itself. Dark mana seeped slowly from the fracture.
Elara stepped beside him.
"That's the source."
Cassian studied the tear carefully.
Unlike the large dungeon gate beneath the campus, this fracture was unstable and small.
But if left alone…
It would grow.
Aurora crouched beside it.
"So how do we close it?"
Cassian extended his senses.
The fracture pulsed weakly.
He could force it shut through structural mana pressure.
But that would cause a violent backlash.
Instead, he chose a different approach.
[Mana Construct: Stabilization Matrix]
Thin lines of energy spread across the laboratory floor, forming a complex geometric pattern around the fracture.
[Mana Consumed: 34]
The tear began shrinking slowly.
Elara's eyes widened slightly.
"You're stabilizing it instead of destroying it."
Cassian nodded.
"If we stabilize the micro-fractures, we can control them."
Aurora tilted her head.
"Meaning?"
"Meaning this campus becomes more than just a base."
The fracture sealed completely with a faint pulse.
[Micro-Fracture Stabilized]
[Experience Gained]
Cassian exhaled slowly.
Elara looked down at the scanner.
"The mana field around the engineering building just normalized."
Aurora stood and stretched.
"So one down."
Cassian turned toward the exit.
"Two left."
But as they stepped outside, something unexpected happened.
The domain beneath the campus pulsed.
Hard.
The dungeon core reacted.
Then Cassian's system flashed again.
[Domain Expansion Progress: 72%]
[Warning]
[External Mana Signatures Approaching Ravencrest Territory]
Aurora's expression shifted.
"That doesn't sound friendly."
Cassian looked toward the distant city skyline.
Several dark shapes moved between buildings far beyond the campus.
Large ones.
Very large.
Elara stared at the readings.
"Those aren't micro-fractures."
Cassian's voice was calm but serious.
"No."
He watched the distant movement carefully.
"Those are migrating monsters."
