Chapter 34 - Ch13- The Night in Library...

Night in the Library – Storm, Silence, and Unspoken Changes

The rain had not stopped.

If anything, it had become heavier.

The wind howled outside the college building, rattling the large glass windows of the library. Thunder cracked across the sky again and again, the flashes of lightning briefly illuminating the rows of bookshelves like pale ghosts.

Inside the library, the emergency lights cast a faint orange glow over everything.

The group had stopped trying to open the door long ago.

After the panic, after Care's attack, after the fear had finally settled, exhaustion had taken over.

No one had the strength left to talk.

They simply stayed.

No one suggested leaving Care alone.

No one even thought about it.

So slowly, one by one, they settled on the library floor.

Not far from where Care lay.

Ben leaned against one shelf, arms folded loosely across his chest.

Daisy curled up beside another table, her bag under her head.

Kevin and Joong sat near the door, still keeping an eye on it as if it might open on its own.

Nova sat quietly with her back against a shelf, watching Care every few minutes.

Ash rested nearby, half awake, half asleep.

Lyra sat closest to Care.

Cole sat on the other side of her.

Without saying it aloud, the group had formed a quiet circle around the girl they had once believed was untouchable.

Now she looked anything but that.

Care lay on the floor, breathing slowly, the faint rise and fall of her chest visible in the dim light. Her hair had fallen messily over her face, and her hands were curled loosely near her chest.

She looked smaller somehow.

More fragile.

For hours, no one moved.

The storm raged outside.

But inside, exhaustion finally pulled them under.

Deep into the Night

Sometime later, thunder crashed so loudly that the library walls seemed to tremble.

Care stirred.

Her breathing shifted slightly.

Her brows tightened as if something unpleasant had slipped into her dreams.

A nightmare.

Her fingers twitched.

Then suddenly—

She shifted.

Her body turned abruptly toward the nearest warmth.

Before Cole could react, Care's hand shot out in sleep and grabbed his arm tightly.

Her fingers clutched the fabric of his sleeve like someone trying to hold on to something safe.

Cole froze.

He looked down at her.

Care didn't wake.

Her grip tightened slightly as another distant thunder rolled through the sky.

She looked… scared.

Even in sleep.

Cole slowly exhaled, careful not to move too much.

He didn't pull his arm away.

Instead, he stayed completely still.

Letting her hold on.

Across from them, Nova had noticed.

But she said nothing.

None of them did.

Because for the first time, they were seeing something real about Care.

Something she had never shown them.

Another Quiet Change

Near the bookshelves, Lyra shifted uncomfortably in her sleep.

A faint shiver ran through her shoulders.

Then another.

Alex noticed immediately.

He sat up.

Lyra's face looked slightly pale in the emergency light.

Her breathing was a little uneven, and her arms were wrapped tightly around herself.

"She's cold," Alex murmured quietly.

No one else woke.

Without thinking much, Alex moved closer.

He sat beside Lyra and gently pulled her closer so her head rested against his shoulder.

At first, she stirred slightly.

But when his arm wrapped carefully around her shoulders, she settled again.

Another shiver ran through her.

Her forehead felt slightly warm.

"Great," Alex whispered softly.

"Fever."

He adjusted his jacket and draped it over her carefully.

Lyra leaned closer instinctively, her body searching for warmth even in sleep.

Alex didn't complain.

He just stayed there.

Holding her steady.

The storm continued outside.

Inside the library, the group slept.

For the first time since meeting each other, not as rivals.

Not as strangers.

But as people silently protecting one another.

Early Morning

The storm had softened by morning.

Rain still fell outside, but the thunder had faded.

Pale sunlight slowly filtered through the high library windows.

One by one, the group began to wake.

Ben stretched first, groaning slightly.

"My back is dead."

Daisy rubbed her eyes.

"Sleeping on a library floor… great life choices."

Joong yawned loudly near the door.

Nova sat up slowly and immediately looked toward Care.

The girl was still asleep.

Still holding Cole's arm.

Cole had not moved all night.

His arm was probably numb by now, but he didn't say anything.

Ben noticed and smirked slightly.

"Comfortable, Romeo?"

Cole shot him a glare.

"Shut up."

But he didn't pull his arm away.

Across the room, Ash sat up and noticed something else.

"Lyra?"

Alex was still sitting against the shelf, with Lyra leaning against him.

He looked tired.

Lyra slowly opened her eyes.

Her face looked flushed.

Ash immediately moved closer.

"Lyra… are you okay?"

Lyra blinked slowly.

"My head feels weird…"

Alex sighed quietly.

"She had a fever last night."

Ben frowned.

"Great."

Nova stood up.

"We need to get out of here."

Joong checked the door again.

It was still locked.

But after some time, the janitor finally opened it from outside, shocked to see a group of students inside.

After a few quick explanations, the group stepped outside.

The morning air was cool and fresh after the storm.

Lyra looked weak.

Care was still asleep.

Ash looked at her carefully.

"She's still exhausted."

Cole looked down at the girl still gripping his sleeve.

"She barely slept properly yesterday either."

Nova thought for a moment.

"We're not leaving either of them here."

Ben nodded.

"Agreed."

Daisy crossed her arms.

"So what's the plan?"

Joong pointed toward the parking area.

"Mansion."

Alex carefully helped Lyra stand.

"We should get her somewhere warm."

Ash looked at Care.

"But if we wake her suddenly, it might trigger another attack."

Everyone went silent.

Then Cole spoke.

"Don't wake her."

Ben smirked.

"Then what? Teleport her?"

Cole sighed.

"Just… carry her."

Nova nodded.

"Good idea."

Care was still deeply asleep.

Exhaustion had completely taken over her body.

Cole carefully bent down.

Slowly, gently, he lifted her.

Care shifted slightly but didn't wake.

Her head rested lightly against his shoulder.

Her breathing remained slow and peaceful.

For once, she looked calm.

No walls.

No arrogance.

Just a tired girl finally resting.

The group walked toward their cars quietly.

Alex helped Lyra into the passenger seat first.

Ben opened the back door.

Cole carefully placed Care inside so she could sleep comfortably.

She didn't wake.

Even as the car doors closed.

Even as the engines started.

The group drove toward the mansion.

None of them spoke much.

But something had changed.

The night in the library had quietly broken a wall between them.

Not completely.

Not yet.

But the first cracks had finally appeared.
