Chapter 19 - Eyes That Linger

The air in Beacon Hills felt different after that morning.

Not just because of the Alpha.

Not just because of the hunters.

But because something subtle had begun to shift—

Around Aiden Blackwell.

Beacon Hills High School – Lunch Period

The cafeteria buzzed with noise.

Students laughed, talked, argued—

Completely unaware of the supernatural storm brewing around them.

At one of the tables—

Scott McCall sat with Stiles, nervously poking at his food.

"I swear things are getting worse," Scott muttered.

Stiles leaned in.

"Define worse."

Scott sighed.

"Hunters. Alphas. And Aiden acting like everything is normal."

Stiles frowned.

"Okay yeah, that last one is definitely suspicious."

Before Scott could respond—

A chair slid out across from them.

Calm.

Unbothered.

Aiden sat down.

"Talking about me again?"

Scott gave him a look.

"You make it easy."

Aiden smirked.

"I try."

But before the conversation could continue—

Two more presences approached.

And both Scott and Stiles noticed immediately.

Allison Argent

and

Lydia Martin

Stiles froze mid-bite.

"…Oh."

Scott whispered.

"Don't make it weird."

"I'm not making it weird," Stiles whispered back.

"It's already weird."

Allison smiled slightly.

"Hey."

Lydia didn't say anything at first.

Her eyes were already on Aiden.

Observing.

Measuring.

Aiden leaned back casually.

"Should I be worried?"

Lydia tilted her head.

"Depends."

A pause.

"Are you hiding something?"

Scott choked slightly.

Stiles immediately leaned forward.

"Yes, he is—"

Aiden kicked him lightly under the table.

Stiles winced.

"…Ow."

Allison sat down next to Aiden.

Close enough that their arms almost touched.

"Ignore Lydia," she said.

"She thinks everything is a puzzle."

Lydia smirked faintly.

"And I'm usually right."

Aiden turned slightly toward Allison.

"And what do you think?"

Allison met his gaze.

A little longer than necessary.

"I think…"

A pause.

"You're dangerous."

Scott nearly dropped his fork.

Stiles whispered—

"Okay wow, she said it out loud."

Aiden raised an eyebrow.

"And that bothers you?"

Allison shook her head slowly.

"No."

A faint smile formed.

"It doesn't."

That answer lingered.

Longer than it should have.

Across the table—

Lydia noticed everything.

The distance.

The tone.

The subtle tension.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

Interesting.

Aiden's smirk deepened slightly.

"Things are progressing nicely."

Meanwhile—

Scott looked between them.

Confused.

Concerned.

"Why does it feel like I'm missing something important?"

Stiles nodded seriously.

"Because you are."

Suddenly—

A sharp sound echoed through the cafeteria.

A tray dropped.

Metal clanged loudly.

Everyone turned.

A student stood frozen near the entrance.

Eyes wide.

Breathing heavily.

Then—

He collapsed.

Screams erupted instantly.

Students rushed back.

Panic spread.

Scott stood up immediately.

"What happened?!"

Aiden was already moving.

Fast.

Focused.

He reached the student first.

Knelt beside him.

Checked his pulse.

Alive.

But weak.

Then—

Aiden smelled it.

Wolfsbane.

His eyes darkened.

"Hunters…"

Scott moved closer.

"What is it?"

Aiden's voice turned cold.

"This wasn't random."

Across the room—

Standing near the exit—

A familiar figure watched quietly.

Chris Argent

Their eyes met.

For a moment—

Neither moved.

Then Chris turned—

And walked out.

Aiden stood slowly.

Expression unreadable.

Allison rushed forward.

"What happened to him?!"

Aiden looked at her.

Carefully.

"He was poisoned."

Allison's eyes widened.

"Poisoned?!"

Lydia stepped closer too.

More serious now.

"This isn't normal."

Aiden shook his head.

"No."

A pause.

"It's not."

Scott clenched his fists.

"This is because of me… isn't it?"

Aiden turned sharply.

"No."

His voice was firm.

Certain.

"This is because the hunters are getting impatient."

The atmosphere shifted again.

Heavier.

More dangerous.

Allison looked at Aiden.

Concern now replacing curiosity.

"What does that mean?"

Aiden met her gaze.

This time—

There was no deflection.

"It means…"

A pause.

"They're not just watching anymore."

Silence.

Lydia crossed her arms slowly.

"And you knew this would happen."

Aiden didn't deny it.

Lydia's eyes sharpened.

"Which means you're deeper in this than any of us."

Aiden smiled faintly.

"You have no idea."

Allison stepped closer again.

Closer than before.

"Then tell me."

Aiden looked at her.

Really looked this time.

And for a brief moment—

The world around them faded.

Danger.

Hunters.

Alpha.

None of it mattered.

Only this—

A connection forming in the middle of chaos.

Aiden spoke quietly.

"Stay close to me."

Allison didn't hesitate.

"…Okay."

Across from them—

Lydia watched.

Silent.

Thinking.

And deep down—

Something unfamiliar stirred within her.

Not fear.

Not curiosity.

Something sharper.

Interest.

Outside the school—

Inside the black SUV—

Chris Argent loaded another round calmly.

His eyes cold.

Focused.

"The game is over," he muttered.

Back inside—

Aiden's eyes flickered with hellfire.

Because now—

The lines had been drawn.

And this time—

There would be no going back.
