Chapter 21 - Claim and Conflict

The hallway was still.

Too still.

The unconscious Beta lay on the floor, breathing steadily after Aiden's command.

No chaos now.

Only tension.

Scott McCall exhaled slowly.

"Okay… we really need to talk about how you just did that."

Aiden didn't respond immediately.

His eyes were still faintly glowing.

Focused.

Thinking.

Calculating.

Allison Argent stepped closer.

Not hesitant anymore.

Not confused.

Just… drawn.

"You didn't hurt him," she said softly.

Aiden finally looked at her.

"No."

Their eyes locked.

And for a moment—

Everything else faded again.

But not for everyone.

Lydia Martin was watching.

Closely.

Too closely.

Her gaze shifted between them.

Sharp.

Observant.

And now—

Possessive in its own quiet way.

"You could have killed him," Lydia said calmly.

Aiden glanced at her.

"I don't kill without reason."

Lydia tilted her head.

"Interesting."

A pause.

"Because you definitely look like someone who could."

Aiden smirked slightly.

"I'll take that as a compliment."

Behind them—

Stiles Stilinski leaned toward Scott.

"Okay, I'm officially convinced he's the final boss."

Scott whispered back—

"…I'm starting to think that too."

Aiden ignored them.

His focus shifted.

Because something else was wrong.

The Beta.

Even unconscious—

His body was tense.

Unstable.

Like something was still pulling him.

Aiden's eyes narrowed.

"Someone's controlling him."

Scott frowned.

"What do you mean controlling?"

Aiden looked down at the Beta.

"This isn't natural."

A pause.

"Even new wolves don't lose control like this without a trigger."

And then—

It clicked.

Aiden's gaze sharpened.

"Fear."

Scott blinked.

"What?"

Aiden looked up.

Toward the hallway.

Toward the exits.

Toward the invisible threat surrounding them.

"This isn't just an attack," Aiden said quietly.

"It's manipulation."

And suddenly—

The temperature dropped.

A slow clap echoed from the end of the hallway.

Everyone turned.

Stepping out of the shadows—

With that same calm, terrifying presence—

Was Peter Hale.

"Well done," Peter said smoothly.

His eyes gleamed with amusement.

"You figured it out faster than I expected."

Scott tensed immediately.

"You again—"

Peter ignored him.

His attention locked onto Aiden.

Always Aiden.

"You're becoming quite the problem," Peter continued.

Aiden didn't react.

"Then stop creating problems."

Peter chuckled.

"Oh, but where's the fun in that?"

He gestured toward the unconscious Beta.

"He's mine."

Scott stepped forward.

"No, he's not—"

Aiden's arm moved instantly.

Blocking Scott.

Stopping him.

Without even looking.

Dominance.

Control.

Authority.

"Stay back," Aiden said calmly.

Scott froze.

Because something in that voice—

Wasn't a suggestion.

Peter noticed.

And smiled wider.

"Interesting…"

His gaze shifted slightly—

Toward Allison.

Then Lydia.

Then back to Aiden.

"You're building something," Peter said.

"A pack… or something even more dangerous."

Aiden stepped forward.

Slow.

Controlled.

Every step deliberate.

"Leave," Aiden said.

Simple.

Cold.

Absolute.

Peter didn't move.

Instead—

He stepped forward too.

Now they stood face to face again.

But this time—

Closer.

More intense.

More dangerous.

"You really think you can control this town?" Peter asked.

Aiden's eyes flickered with hellfire.

"I don't think."

A pause.

"I decide."

The air between them ignited.

Invisible pressure spread outward.

Behind Aiden—

Allison felt it.

Her heartbeat quickened.

Not from fear.

From something deeper.

Stronger.

And without realizing it—

She stepped closer to him.

That didn't go unnoticed.

Lydia's eyes narrowed.

Just slightly.

Peter chuckled again.

"Oh, this is getting entertaining."

Then—

In a blur—

He moved.

Fast.

Aimed not at Aiden—

But past him.

Toward Allison.

Scott shouted—

"Allison!"

But Aiden was faster.

He didn't turn.

Didn't hesitate.

Didn't even look.

His hand shot out behind him—

Grabbing Peter's throat mid-motion.

Stopping him completely.

The impact cracked the wall beside them.

Silence.

Peter's eyes widened.

Just for a second.

Aiden's grip tightened.

Slowly.

Controlled.

Dominant.

"You don't touch what's mine."

The words echoed.

Low.

Cold.

Possessive.

Behind him—

Allison froze.

Her breath caught.

Her heart—

Raced.

Because this time—

She felt it clearly.

Not just protection.

Not just danger.

Claim.

Peter's grin slowly returned.

Even now.

Even like this.

"…There it is," he whispered.

Aiden's eyes burned brighter.

Flames flickering at the edges.

"Next time," Aiden said quietly,

"You won't walk away."

For a moment—

It felt real.

Like he might actually kill him.

But then—

Aiden released him.

Peter landed lightly.

Stepping back.

Still smiling.

"Soon," Peter said.

Then vanished.

Gone.

The hallway fell silent again.

Scott exhaled hard.

"Okay… that guy needs to die."

Aiden didn't respond.

Because his attention—

Was somewhere else.

Allison.

She was still standing close.

Too close.

Her eyes locked onto his.

"You meant that," she said softly.

Aiden didn't deny it.

For a moment—

No one spoke.

Then—

Lydia turned.

Walking away slowly.

But not before saying—

Without looking back—

"Careful, Aiden…"

A pause.

"You're starting a war you won't be able to control."

Aiden smirked slightly.

"Good."

Because war—

Was exactly what he wanted.
