Rong Ci almost laughed as she listened.
Lin Wu and Feng Tingshen had only met after she and Feng Tingshen were already married. Lin Wu knew about her relationship with Feng Tingshen, and she didn't believe for a second that Lin Lihai was unaware that Feng Tingshen was the husband of his other daughter!
He definitely knew. Yet, he still shamelessly tried to play matchmaker for Lin Wu and Feng Tingshen. It was clear just how thoroughly Lin Lihai disregarded her as his daughter!
Feng Tingshen agreed to the proposal.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Rong Ci watched as Feng Tingshen waited for Lin Lihai to get into his car. Only after the car drove away did he get into his own vehicle and leave.
With Feng Tingshen's current status and position, those he would go to such lengths for were usually limited to a few elders of the Feng family. But Feng Tingshen was clearly showing respect to Lin Lihai simply because he was Lin Wu's father.
Thinking of this, she remembered the few times Feng Tingshen had met her own grandmother, uncle, and aunt. His attitude had always been one of indifference and coldness. Even when she had carefully mentioned it to him in the past, he had been completely unwilling to help her uncle with even a small favor...
But his attitude toward the people Lin Wu valued was entirely different. His treatment of her compared to his treatment of Lin Wu was like night and day. This was likely the difference between love and the lack of it.
After a short while, Feng Tingshen also departed. Much later, Rong Ci turned and entered Yan Hao.
In the afternoon, after Rong Ci finished work, she went home to retrieve the gifts she had prepared for the Feng family's elders. She then drove toward the Feng Family Ancestral Home.
The Feng Family Ancestral Home was located near the outskirts of the capital. The area was scenic, with lush mountains and clear waters, providing a quiet environment perfectly suited for the elderly. The only drawback was its distance from the city center.
It took Rong Ci an hour and a half of driving to reach the estate. After parking her car, she carried her gifts toward the house. Before she even entered, she could hear the cheerful laughter of her daughter, Feng Jingxin.
Old Madame Feng, who was facing the door, noticed her immediately. A wide smile spread across her face. "Ci is here? Quick, come over and sit by me."
However, only Old Madame Feng was smiling. Feng Tingshen's mother, Sang Qian Rong Ci's mother-in-law along with Feng Tinglin and her child, saw their smiles fade the moment they looked at her.
Rong Ci noticed, but she didn't care as much as she once had. Pretending not to see their expressions, she smiled back. She handed the gifts to the butler who had come to greet her and walked toward the old lady. "Grandmother."
"Oh, my," the old lady said, her face blooming with joy as she pulled Rong Ci down to sit. Then, she frowned slightly. "Why have you lost so much weight? Has Tingshen been bullying you?"
Rong Ci lowered her gaze and shook her head. "No, I've just been quite busy lately."
This was a half-truth. Feng Tingshen hadn't bullied her, but her mood was indeed frequently affected by him. Besides that, for the past half month, she had spent most of her time after work focusing on researching Artificial Intelligence, often studying until the early hours of the morning. Her weight loss during this period was partly due to that as well.
Before the old lady could respond, Feng Tinglin let out a sneer. "Listen to you. Anyone who didn't know better would think your job is so important that the entire Feng Group couldn't function without you."
Sang Qian sat to the side, maintaining the aura of an elegant noblewoman. She took a sip of her tea and said coldly, "If you find working at the Feng Group too exhausting, you should just resign. After all, no one is begging you to work there."
Feng Tinglin laughed. "Isn't that the truth! I'm just afraid some people are unwilling to let go"
Old Madame Feng couldn't stand the others speaking ill of Rong Ci and was about to intervene, but Rong Ci spoke first. "I have already submitted my resignation. Once the handover is complete, I will be leaving the Feng Group."
As soon as she said this, both Sang Qian and Feng Tinglin were stunned.
Old Madame Feng frowned. "Ci"
"Is Mommy here?"
Feng Jingxin had just taken the elevator to the second floor. Now, as the doors opened and she saw Rong Ci, she was quite happy. After all, she hadn't been in contact with Rong Ci for over half a month. She interrupted Old Madame Feng's words and threw herself into Rong Ci's arms. "Mommy!"
Rong Ci paused, then gently hugged her and gave a soft "mm" in response, though she said nothing else.
Old Madame Feng actually didn't want Rong Ci to leave the Feng Group. However, seeing Feng Jingxin there, she didn't continue the previous topic. Instead, she smiled and said to Rong Ci, "Ci, I haven't had the tea you brew in a long time. How about making two cups for me?"
Rong Ci had grown up by her own grandmother's side. Since she was young, she had possessed a quiet and steady nature, capable of sitting still for long periods. She was also naturally talented, and over the years, her tea-brewing skills had become quite excellent.
"Of course, that's no problem. Though, it's almost time for dinner..."
Feng Tinglin liked coffee but disliked tea. She also had no interest in watching Rong Ci show off her tea skills, so she interjected, "That's right. Tingshen and Tingyi will be back soon, and then we'll eat..."
Just as she finished speaking, Feng Tingshen returned. After entering, he first greeted Old Madame Feng and Sang Qian. When he saw Rong Ci, he gave her a brief glance before looking away and sitting on a single-seater sofa far from her.
Seeing Feng Tingshen, Feng Jingxin immediately left Rong Ci's embrace and ran over to him. "Daddy!"
"Mm." Feng Tingshen hugged her and glanced around. Just as he was about to speak, Feng Tingyi returned.
Feng Tingyi was much younger than Feng Tinglin and Feng Tingshen; he wasn't yet an adult and had a bright, sunny personality. Upon entering, he gave a light leap over the sofa's armrest and sat down steadily. Seeing so many people gathered, he joked, "Is everyone waiting for me?"
Feng Tinglin tapped him on the head. "That's right, we're all sitting here starving, waiting for you!"
Feng Tingshen was of a serious disposition and usually didn't talk much. Feng Tinglin had a fiery temper. Feng Tingyi, however, was the family's "happy fruit," and was more affectionate with their parents.
The moment he arrived, a visible smile appeared on Sang Qian's cold face, and Old Madame Feng became even happier. Seeing that it was getting late and everyone was hungry, she ordered the meal to be served.
There were nine people in total, and they headed to the small dining room. When they sat down, the order was Old Madame Feng, Feng Tingshen, Feng Jingxin, and Rong Ci.
The old lady smiled and beckoned to Feng Jingxin. "Jingxin, swap places with your father. Let your mom and dad sit together."
Old Madame Feng never missed an opportunity to try and matchmake Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen. The others were used to it. They all felt the old lady was wasting her breath. After all, no matter how much she tried to push them together, Feng Tingshen's attitude toward Rong Ci hadn't changed at all over the years.
Knowing that the matchmaking was useless, Feng Tinglin gave a sarcastic smile. This time, she didn't even bother to meddle and just found a random seat.
Though Feng Tingshen disliked the old lady's arrangements, he wouldn't disrespect her as long as it wasn't a major issue. Therefore, he remained silent, which was taken as silent consent.
Rong Ci wasn't happy about the matchmaking attempt like she used to be. Her expression remained neutral, but she gave Old Madame Feng a gentle smile. "It's alright, Grandmother. Let's just sit like this."
