Chapter 20: First Harvests

By now, Alicia's world had reached a point where simple survival was no longer the only priority.

Life had become more stable.

Water flowed properly.

Environmental zones were functioning.

Soul Power was spread.

Humans were beginning to use tools and stay in more consistent groups.

That naturally led to the next step.

Food management.

Alicia focused on several human groups near rivers and fertile plains.

Over time, they had already begun returning to areas where edible plants grew more reliably.

Now, some of them were starting to notice a pattern.

Seeds dropped near water often grew again.

Plants returned to the same useful places.

Certain roots and grains were easier to find in specific areas.

Alicia did not interfere too directly.

She only gave the smallest nudge through Soul Power—just enough to sharpen instinct and encourage observation.

The rest, they did themselves.

Some humans began placing seeds in softer soil near water.

Others dug shallow grooves or disturbed the ground before planting.

A few returned later to check those same areas.

It was clumsy.

Inconsistent.

But definitely the beginning of agriculture.

Alicia found herself oddly invested.

"…Come on. Figure it out."

A while later, one of the planted areas began showing visible growth.

Alicia immediately felt pleased.

Not because the progress was fast.

But because it was earned.

They had noticed a pattern.

Repeated it.

And gotten a result.

That mattered.

Meanwhile, in the forest, the silver fox had buried food for later use and returned to retrieve it successfully.

Alicia noticed this and thought:

"…Of course you did."

At this point, she was starting to suspect the fox had some kind of personal agenda.

Still, the overall result was exactly what she wanted.

Humans were beginning to stay in one place longer.

They were learning to manage resources.

They were building routines.

And all of that meant one very important thing:

Her world was slowly becoming ready for something bigger.

Not cultivation yet.

Not true civilization yet.

But the foundations were there now.

And that was enough.

Alicia looked over her planet one more time.

The forests breathed with life.

The rivers moved steadily.

The plains supported movement and growth.

The humans and beasts were learning, adapting, and shaping themselves.

For the first time, Alicia felt like she wasn't just watching life happen.

She was watching a world begin.

And honestly?

That felt pretty nice.
