Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Puny Priests

The Priests clasped their hands and they began chanting.

Priest Xalak held up his right hand in front of his chest.

"I must admit. An Invoker is stronger than us. But our power rises exponentially with every member."

Carter looked around. He stayed still and watched what they were doing.

A gold barrier formed around him and it trapped him inside a specific area. If it was an ordinary human, they wouldn't have enough time to escape.

But the Eldritch Knight was very quick. Carter was able to escape the barrier before the Priests finished their chanting. The barrier was slow as a snail in his eyes.

Carter didn't do that. Because the moment he struck, it would be the end.

Priest Xalak didn't know that. He thought Carter was scared shitless.

"We did research about you, Carter. That you and two Invokers are basically invincible on the battlefield."

Priest Xalak squinted his eyes and smirked sarcastically. "It's some sort of fused strength, right? You can join the power of the Invokers into one and that's why you're so strong."

Neros and Piper looked at each other in confusion.

"Where the hell did he receive such an idea?" Piper said.

"The weak will rationalize anything to excuse their weakness." Neros shook his head. "The Priests of Manaca are too ignorant and arrogant."

"Now that you don't have your Invokers anymore. How can they save you now?" Priest Xalak laughed manically. "Kneel! And admit your wrongdoings before God! He shall forgive you and love you with all his might."

"Please." Carter shook his head in disdain. "If I start, you will all be dead. Give me your strongest attack."

Priest Xalak smiled, "As you wish."

The priest held his two hands in front of his chest. A ball of light formed before turning into a beam and shot toward Carter.

The white swordsman deflected the beam with the Prisoner easily. The yellow beam turned sharply in the air and shot exploded on the ground not too far away.

"It can't be..." Priest Xalak gasped. "No human could block the Light of Manac."

"Is that everything?" Carter said.

Priest Xalak growled. He gestured for the other Priests to stand behind him.

They put their hands on the shoulder of the priest in front and created one continuous link.

Their power joined together as Priest Xalak formed another sphere in his hands. This sphere was bigger, more unstable and was way more destructive.

The yellow sphere caused the dirt around to rise up. Constant shockwaves blasted out from within the sphere.

Carter smiled.

"Now you are worthy to stand against me."

Carter raised the dark blade. "Prisoner Unbound!"

Dark clouds covered him.

Priest Xalak roared, "Die heretic!

Light of Manac!"

Xalak pushed his hands toward Carter. A thick bright beam of yellow shot toward the Eldritch Knight.

Feathers shot out from the dark cloud and pierced into the priests behind Xalak. They fell down like grasses and screamed in pain.

"Stand strong, my brothers! The light of God will destroy him!" Xalak shouted.

The Raven Knight walked out. The dark cloud disappeared. There, standing inside the barrier was a knight of the dark. A hero bathed in the shadow to save the light.

He stopped the energy beam with his one hand.

"Impossible! Brothers! Give me more power!" Priest Xalak shouted.

And his allies did give him more power. The yellow beam was bigger, thicker, and more relentless. But it did nothing to Carter.

The Eldritch Knight stepped forward slowly. He blocked the yellow with his palm like it was some mild nuisance.

He reached the yellow barrier.

"Puny Priests." Carter's dark voice echoed.

He swung the Prisoner over, destroying the barrier in one strike, and sending the yellow beam right where it came from.

Xalak jumped out of the way and miraculously survived. His brother did not.

"You monster!" He shouted.

Carter appeared right in front of the Priest and grabbed his throat. The Raven Knight lifted him off his feet.

"We don't know each other. But you want me dead. Who is the real monster here?" Carter said.

"Please! Spare me!" Xalak's feet kicked in the air but it was useless.

"This world has enough of your false idol, Xalak. The Terrors need to be cleansed thoroughly. Humanity deserves its paradise."

Carter clenched his hand and broke Xalak's neck completely, killing him in the process.

Neros stopped the recording. "I know you are an honorable warrior, Zen. But your efficiency scared me sometimes."

"Mercy can only be used for the innocent." Carter said. "They are only deceptors."

"Well said." Neros nodded.

Carter nodded, "Then I will cleanse these Terrors."

Carter turned the Terror corpses on the ground into Skin Shards. This last horde had about twenty of them. One was a Peak Awaken. Seven were Major Awakens. Eight were Medium Awakens. And fourteen were Minor Awakens.

[+10 Major Terror Shards (Awaken)]

[+8 Medium Terror Shards (Awaken)]

[+14 Minor Terror Shards (Awaken)]

"Let's go home early tonight. We have successfully got rid of the Terrors in Barena. That is not a small achievement." Carter said.

"You're damn right, Zen!" Neros raised his brush excitedly, "We did something no other Invoker group could do! We have a chance to save humanity!"

"I really am not tired at all. We can go to other cities as well and start cleansing Terrors there." Piper said.

Carter put his hands on the two of them, "Terrors are much more complex than you guys think. It is not that simple."

"What do you mean, Zen?" Neros frowned, "What are you not telling us?"

'I really don't know as well, Neros. I just want to visit the other dimensions.'

Carter glanced at the floating windows that only he could see. It showed his current Prime Coins.

: 2,901

He had enough Prime Coins for a return trip from another dimension. And even some spare coins for emergencies.

A new dimension meant potential for entire new power, new skins, and new supernatural pathways.

"You are too weak, Neros and Piper. One day when you are strong enough, you shall know the truth."

"You're going somewhere?" Piper could feel it in her bones.

Carter nodded, "Me and Caine have a lead. We might be able to learn more about this Gold Stream and how to get rid of it once and for all."

"So Caine will go with you, but we can't? He's just a rich man." Neros said.

"Don't be fooled by his appearance, Neros. He has an entirely different power than you. One day, his power might be the key in saving humanity."
