Chapter 9 - Does that ring a bell?

Loreen's POV

The carriage shook again, and Loreen tightened his grip on the small ring in his hand before it slipped from his fingers.

He exhaled slowly and leaned back, then turned his head to look out the window once more.

The Taal family estate was a bit far from the royal palace, but closer to the lower parts of the city, where the roads were rough and uneven, nothing like the smooth paths of the upper districts.

"How long until we're there?" Loreen asked again.

Marsden sighed, not even trying to hide it this time. He shifted in his seat and glanced outside before answering. "Soon, your highness," he said.

Loreen looked at him briefly, then looked away. He already knew Marsden was tired of the question. He was tired of asking it too.

It had taken Loreen over three days to gather himself and finally decide to see Lady Candice, his chosen bride.
