Sairis's POV
What was Loreen doing here? Sairis thought.
This was the house of a traitor. The place where the family accused of killing his mother had lived. So why had Loreen come here?
Sairis moved quickly, pressing himself behind a pillar, hiding deeper in the shadows.
"Do you really have to be here?" Marsden asked, his voice low as he glanced around. "There is nothing to see. This place has been empty for years, Loreen."
Loreen said nothing. He kept walking, his eyes moving slowly across the room as if searching for something only he could see.
Then he stopped at the foot of the stairs and crouched down.
Sairis frowned slightly.
What was he looking for?
Why had he come?
Marsden sighed. "Loreen," he muttered, sounding tired and frustrated.
Loreen sighed and turned sharply to him. "I just needed to be sure," he said quietly. "He could not have survived. Right?"
Sairis drew in a sharp breath. It made sense now why Loreen would come to the Locke family mansion.
