Sairis pushed open the wooden door of the pub and stepped inside, the noise hitting him at once.
Laughter, loud voices, the clatter of cups, and the thick smell of ale and sweat filled the air. It was already busy, and he knew it would only get worse as the night stretched on. This place always did.
He paused for a moment near the entrance, his hand still resting on the door, his mind unsettled.
He should not be here. He should have gone back to the Taal estate the moment he left his family home. That was the sensible thing to do.
But tonight, sense had little hold over him.
His chest felt tight, his thoughts restless, and no matter how much he tried to push them away, they kept returning to the same thing; The ball where everything had gone wrong, and Prince Loreen.
