Loreen's POV
Loreen walked beside Sairis with slow, even steps, keeping his face calm even though his mind was far from it.
The palace corridor stretched ahead of them, bright with soft golden lights from the wall lamps. Servants bowed as they passed, but Loreen barely noticed them. His attention stayed on the man holding his arm.
He decided to speak first, since he was not sure Sairis would say a word to him without asking.
"Why is no one accompanying you?" Loreen asked lightly, keeping his tone normal. "Sairis or your handmaid. Someone should be with you."
Sairis did not hesitate. "They are tired," he said simply. "They need to unpack and settle in. There is a lot to do after the journey."
Loreen arched a brow as they walked. His grip stayed steady on Sairis' hand, but his thoughts shifted quickly. That answer was too neat. Too easy. He could not ask the real question.
