Loreen's POV
Loreen's eyes moved back to him slowly, studying him without making it obvious. "You speak quite freely," he said, his tone calm but edged with something curious.
Sairis glanced at him. "Do I?" he asked.
Loreen gave a small nod. "Most ladies in your position would be more careful with their words."
Sairis was quiet for a moment. Then he let out a soft breath. "Most ladies are not me," he said.
That answer made something shift in Loreen's chest again. He kept his face neutral, but inside, his thoughts moved faster. That was not just a slip. That was Sairis telling him how confident he was.
Loreen tilted his head slightly. "And what kind of person are you, my lady?" he asked.
Sairis looked ahead, his face calm again, but there was something guarded there now. "One who pays attention," he said. "One who listens."
Loreen watched him closely. "Yes," he said quietly. "I can see that."
