Sairis's POV
A short silence settled between them. It was not an uncomfortable one. Sairis was thinking, and Loreen seemed content to let him, then movement pulled him back.
Loreen shifted and leaned over him, his face appearing above, blocking out the carved ceiling entirely.
He looked down at Sairis with something open and a little uncertain in his expression, which was not something Sairis saw on him often.
"Did you regret it?" Loreen asked. His voice was low, almost careful. "What we did. That we slept together. Did you."
Sairis looked up at him. He thought about it honestly.
He thought about how they had gotten here, all the crooked and unlikely steps that had led from that inn almost a month ago to this bed tonight.
It should not have happened the way it did, but fate made it that way. The more Sairis had tried to stay away from Loreen, the more fate kept pulling the both of them together.
