The school doors burst open with a deafening crash.
Kai, Axel, and Leo poured into the schoolyard, followed closely by the five government officers. The rain-soaked pavement glistened under the streetlights, turning the night into a chaotic battlefield. Every movement sent splashes of water flying, and the sound of debris, shouts, and the hum of energy crackling filled the air.
Kai's red-glowing eyes burned brighter than ever. His fists clenched, trembling with raw power, and the lingering fury from the hallway fight had turned into something far more dangerous.
"Stop, Kai!" Axel shouted, darting between him and the officers. "You can't take them all on! You'll get killed!"
Kai's voice thundered across the yard. "I don't care! They came for us, and I won't let anyone take us down!"
The first officer advanced, aiming a high-powered restraint device. Kai sidestepped, the officer stumbling forward, and countered with a punch that sent him skidding across the wet pavement. The other officers fired simultaneously, energy blasts aimed to immobilize him—but Kai's anger-fueled speed let him dodge most of them.
Leo, analyzing the fight, yelled, "Axel! Flank him from the right! We need to push him out of the fight area before someone gets seriously hurt!"
Axel nodded, sprinting alongside Kai, trying to guide him away from the officers. But Kai wasn't listening—not really. Every strike, every dodge, was fueled by raw emotion, not strategy.
"You don't understand!" Kai roared, swinging wildly at the officers. "They don't get it! They can't see what we've been through! What we've done!"
The energy around him pulsed, sending vibrations through the air. A stray blast from an officer cracked the asphalt nearby, throwing up shards of stone and water. The force of Kai's retaliatory punches smashed a streetlight, plunging part of the street into darkness.
Axel grabbed him, trying to restrain him physically, but Kai shook him off. "Axel! Don't touch me! I… I can't stop!"
Leo, realizing the fight was out of control, pulled a small device from his bag. "Kai! Look at me! You have to focus! If you don't calm down, we'll all get taken out—and then it's over for us!"
Kai's breathing was ragged. His chest heaved. Sweat mixed with rain streaked down his face. His eyes, still glowing faint red, scanned the officers around him. And for the first time, his anger began to mix with fear.
He could destroy them all. He could—but at what cost?
The officers advanced cautiously, weapons aimed, knowing they were dealing with something far beyond a normal threat.
Kai paused for a fraction of a second, the reality of the destruction around him hitting him. Broken pavement, shattered streetlights, and his friends barely keeping up.
But even in that instant of clarity, his mind screamed: They came for us. They tried to take us down. We fight.
The night stretched on, the storm above echoing the chaos below.
The streets of Nova were now a battlefield.
And Kai had just made it personal.
