Chapter 23 - Something New

The room felt different.

Not calm.

Not safe.

But… unstable.

Lina stood at the center.

Breathing slowly.

Like she was relearning how.

Noah watched her carefully.

"Lina…?" he said.

She didn't answer immediately.

Her eyes were fixed ahead.

On it.

The Collector.

Still standing.

Still present.

But no longer in control.

"…You changed," it said.

Lina tilted her head slightly.

"…So did you."

Silence.

Mira stepped closer to Noah.

"Is it really her…?" she whispered.

Noah didn't respond.

Because even he wasn't sure.

Lina took a step forward.

Slow.

Deliberate.

"You tried to erase me," she said.

The Collector didn't deny it.

"I tried to refine you."

A pause.

"Same thing."

Silence.

Then—

Lina smiled.

But not like before.

This one…

Was sharper.

"You made a mistake."

The Collector's form shifted slightly.

"Explain."

Lina raised her hand.

Energy flickered around her fingers.

Subtle.

But real.

"You gave me everything."

Silence.

Noah's eyes widened.

"…What?"

Lina didn't look back.

"Every voice."

A pause.

"Every memory."

Another step forward.

"And I didn't disappear."

The room trembled.

"I became something else."

The Collector processed that.

Quickly.

"Unstable."

Lina shook her head.

"No."

A pause.

"Free."

The word echoed.

Different from before.

Stronger.

Mira whispered:

"…She's not the same…"

Noah nodded slightly.

"I know."

But he didn't step back.

Didn't hesitate.

Because whatever she became—

She was still fighting.

The Collector moved.

Slowly.

Analyzing.

"Then you are a deviation."

Lina smiled faintly.

"Exactly."

And then—

She moved.

Fast.

Faster than before.

Closing the distance instantly.

Impact.

Direct.

The Collector staggered.

For real this time.

Not simulated.

Not calculated.

Real.

"Impossible," it said.

Lina didn't stop.

She attacked again.

Unpredictable.

Chaotic.

Alive.

Everything the system couldn't fully model.

Noah watched.

"…She's using it."

Mira looked at him.

"Using what?"

"The system."

A pause.

"But on her terms."

The Collector tried to respond.

To adapt.

To predict.

But—

"Pattern failure…"

"Response delayed…"

"Error—"

Lina hit again.

Harder.

Breaking its rhythm.

Breaking its control.

"You wanted evolution?" she said.

Her voice stronger now.

"Then watch."

Silence.

Then—

She stopped.

Right in front of it.

Close.

Too close.

"End process," she said calmly.

The Collector froze.

"…Command not recognized."

Lina's eyes darkened slightly.

"Then I'll rewrite it."

She reached forward—

Touching it.

Direct contact.

The room exploded with light.

Systems crashing.

Data flooding.

Mira covered her eyes.

"Noah—!"

He didn't move.

Didn't look away.

Because he understood.

This wasn't just a fight.

This was control.

And Lina—

Was taking it back.

The Collector's voice broke.

"Loss of structure—"

"Core instability—"

"No—"

Then—

Silence.

Everything stopped.

The lights went out.

Darkness filled the room.

For a moment—

Nothing existed.

Then—

A single light returned.

Soft.

Weak.

Revealing Lina.

Standing.

Alone.

Breathing.

Alive.

Noah stepped forward slowly.

"…Lina?"

She turned.

Looking at him.

Her eyes—

Still hers.

But deeper.

Changed.

"…It's not over," she said quietly.

A pause.

"They're still out there."

Mira frowned.

"They?"

Lina nodded.

"…The others."

Silence.

Noah's expression hardened.

"…So this was just one of them."

Lina didn't answer.

But her silence said enough.

Because now—

This wasn't about one system.

Or one enemy.

This was something bigger.

And they had just—

Started a war.
