Chapter 29 - The Thing Above

Everything—

Collapsed.

Not exploded.

Not shattered.

Erased.

No sound.

No ground.

No sky.

Just—

White.

Endless white.

Noah couldn't feel his body.

"…What… is this…"

His voice echoed—

But there was no space for it to travel.

Mira appeared a few steps away.

Floating.

"…I don't like this," she whispered.

Then—

Lina.

Standing.

Unaffected.

"…He did this," Noah said.

A pause.

"The Observer…"

"No."

Lina's voice was calm.

Certain.

"This isn't him."

Silence.

A ripple passed through the white.

Soft.

Almost… curious.

Then—

A voice.

Not loud.

Not quiet.

Just—

Present.

"Correction."

The world trembled—

If it could even be called a world.

"The Observer does not create."

A pause.

"He reports."

Noah's chest tightened.

"…Reports to who?"

Silence.

Then—

The answer came.

"To me."

The white shifted.

Slowly.

Like something behind it was moving.

Watching.

Mira stepped back instinctively.

"…Nope. I officially hate this."

A shape began to form.

Not fully.

Never fully.

Because the mind couldn't hold it.

Every time Noah tried to focus—

It changed.

Too large.

Too wrong.

Too… real.

"What… are you…" he whispered.

A pause.

"I am the constant."

The space distorted.

"I am the boundary."

Lina's eyes narrowed.

"I am the one who decides…"

A breath.

"…what is allowed to exist."

Silence.

Absolute.

Noah felt it then.

Pressure.

Not physical.

Conceptual.

Like his existence was being evaluated.

"…This is bad," he said quietly.

Mira didn't joke this time.

"…We're not supposed to be here."

The presence shifted slightly.

Attention—

Focused.

On Lina.

"…Anomaly," it said.

Lina didn't move.

"You exist outside recorded outcomes."

A pause.

"That is not permitted."

Noah stepped forward instantly.

"Then change your rules."

The pressure spiked.

Violent.

"Kneel."

Noah's body slammed down.

Forced.

Mira collapsed beside him.

"…I hate… higher beings…"

But Lina—

Didn't move.

Still standing.

The presence paused.

"…Resisting authority?"

Lina looked straight at it.

"No."

A beat.

"I just don't recognize it."

Silence.

Then—

For the first time—

Something changed.

Not in Lina.

In it.

A shift.

Small.

But real.

"…You deny structure."

Lina took a step forward.

In a place with no ground.

"I define myself."

The white cracked.

Just slightly.

Noah forced his head up.

Eyes wide.

"…She's affecting it…"

The presence spoke again.

Slower.

"…Identity independent of system…"

A pause.

"…Unacceptable."

Reality—

Or whatever this was—

Started collapsing inward.

"Decision made."

Mira struggled to breathe.

"…I don't like that sentence…"

Lina's expression hardened.

"Yeah?"

A step forward.

"Mine too."

Silence.

Then—

She raised her hand.

And for the first time—

Something pushed back.

Against it.

The white fractured.

Lines spreading across infinity.

The presence stopped.

"…Impossible."

Lina's voice was steady.

"You said you decide what exists."

A pause.

"But I exist anyway."

The cracks deepened.

Noah felt it—

Control breaking.

Mira laughed weakly.

"…Okay… that's kinda badass…"

The presence grew unstable.

"…Re-evaluating anomaly…"

Lina took one final step.

"Do it faster."

Silence.

Then—

Everything shattered.

And this time—

Something fell with it.
