Chapter 26 - Fractured Reality

The world was frozen.

People stood still.

Cars hung in place.

Time—

Paused.

Only three things moved.

Noah.

Mira.

Lina.

And him.

The Observer.

"Let's begin," he said calmly.

Then—

Reality broke.

The ground beneath them cracked violently.

Noah jumped back instantly.

"Move!" he shouted.

Mira dodged to the side—

Barely avoiding a fracture tearing through the street.

"This isn't normal!" she yelled.

"No kidding!" Noah replied.

The Observer raised his hand again.

And the air twisted.

Like space itself was bending.

A force slammed into Noah—

Sending him crashing into a frozen car.

Impact.

Hard.

He gritted his teeth.

"…Okay," he muttered.

"That's new."

Lina stepped forward.

Slow.

Calm.

Too calm.

"You're manipulating perception," she said.

The Observer tilted his head.

"Correction."

A pause.

"I am rewriting it."

Silence.

Mira froze.

"…That's worse."

The Observer moved.

Instantly.

Appearing right in front of Lina.

Too fast.

He reached for her—

But—

She caught his hand.

Everything stopped.

Even him.

"…What?" he said.

Lina's eyes glowed faintly.

"You're not the only one who can use it."

Silence.

Then—

She pushed him back.

Hard.

The Observer slid across the street.

Stopping only after several meters.

Noah's eyes widened.

"…She's matching him."

Mira whispered:

"…No… she's countering him."

The Observer stood still.

Analyzing.

"Adaptation confirmed."

A pause.

"Escalating response."

The air distorted again.

Stronger this time.

Buildings flickered.

The sky itself glitched.

Lina stepped forward again.

"Noah," she said quietly.

"Stay back."

He frowned.

"…Lina—"

"Please."

That one word stopped him.

Something in her voice—

Different.

Serious.

Final.

Noah stepped back slowly.

"…Fine."

Mira grabbed his arm.

"You're really letting her fight alone?!"

Noah didn't look away.

"She's not alone."

A pause.

"She's stronger than both of us right now."

Silence.

Lina and the Observer stood facing each other.

Two forces.

Two systems.

Two evolutions.

"You shouldn't exist," the Observer repeated.

Lina smiled faintly.

"I get that a lot."

Then—

They moved.

At the same time.

Impact.

The street shattered beneath them.

Energy exploded outward.

Windows cracked.

Reality itself rippled.

Noah shielded his eyes.

"…This is insane."

Mira whispered:

"…This isn't human."

No.

It wasn't.

The Observer attacked—

Warping space—

Twisting direction—

But Lina—

Adapted instantly.

Dodging.

Countering.

Like she could see through it.

Or feel it.

"Impossible…" he said.

Lina didn't answer.

She stepped closer.

"You rely on control," she said.

A pause.

"I rely on choice."

Silence.

That difference—

Broke something.

The Observer hesitated.

Just for a second.

But that was enough.

Lina struck.

Direct hit.

He crashed into the ground.

Hard.

Cracks spreading beneath him.

Noah stepped forward slightly.

"…She's winning."

But then—

Something changed.

Lina froze.

Mid-step.

Her body trembled.

"…Lina?" Noah said.

No response.

Her eyes flickered.

Voices.

Too many.

Inside her head.

"You see?"

The Observer slowly stood up.

"…Unstable."

Mira's heart dropped.

"Noah… she's losing control…"

Lina clutched her head.

Breathing uneven.

"…Too loud…"

The voices were back.

Stronger.

Messier.

Overlapping.

Noah moved forward.

"Lina!"

"DON'T COME CLOSER!" she shouted.

Silence.

Everything stopped.

Even the Observer.

Lina's eyes—

No longer stable.

Shifting.

Fighting.

"I can handle it…" she whispered.

But her voice—

Wasn't steady.

Not anymore.

The Observer smiled faintly.

"This is the flaw."

A pause.

"Too many identities."

Noah clenched his fists.

"…Then we fix it."

Silence.

Lina looked at him.

"…How?"

Noah stepped closer.

Slowly.

Carefully.

"By reminding you who you are."

The world stayed frozen.

But something deeper—

Was about to break.
