Chapter 30 - The First Error

Shattering.

Not sound.

Not light.

Concept.

Everything broke.

The white—

Collapsed into fragments.

Fragments that shouldn't exist.

Fragments of something beyond reality.

Noah hit the ground—

Hard.

Air rushed back into his lungs.

"—HAH!"

He coughed violently.

"…We're back…"

Mira rolled onto her side.

"…Define 'back' because I'm not convinced…"

The sky above them—

Glitched.

Not blue.

Not normal.

Lines of distortion running across it.

Like something had been… cracked.

And in the center—

Something was falling.

Lina.

"No!" Noah shouted.

He ran.

Without thinking.

Without hesitation.

She hit the ground—

But he caught her.

Barely.

The impact still forced both of them down.

Silence.

"Lina…?" he said.

No response.

Her body—

Warm.

Alive.

But—

Still.

Mira rushed over.

"…Is she—"

"She's alive," Noah said quickly.

Too quickly.

Like he needed it to be true.

Then—

A voice.

"…Correction."

All three froze.

The Observer stood a few meters away.

Unharmed.

Watching.

"You have returned," he said.

Noah's eyes hardened.

"…You."

The Observer tilted his head slightly.

"Update," he continued.

"The system has been… compromised."

Mira blinked.

"…Compromised? That's your takeaway?!"

The Observer ignored her.

His gaze—

Locked on Lina.

"…Primary anomaly remains."

Noah stepped in front of her instantly.

"Don't."

A pause.

The Observer didn't move.

"…New directive received," he said.

Silence.

Noah's chest tightened.

"…From that thing?"

The Observer didn't answer directly.

But he didn't deny it.

"…Eliminate instability."

The air shifted.

Mira clenched her fists.

"…Of course it's that kind of order…"

Noah didn't step back.

Not this time.

"You want her," he said.

A pause.

"Come through me."

Silence.

The Observer looked at him.

Really looked.

"…You are irrelevant."

Noah smiled slightly.

"Yeah."

A beat.

"I get that a lot too."

Then—

He moved.

Fast.

Not like Lina.

Not perfect.

Not controlled.

But determined.

He punched.

The Observer didn't dodge.

Didn't block.

The hit landed.

And—

For the first time—

He moved.

Half a step back.

Silence.

Mira's eyes widened.

"…No way…"

Noah stared at his own hand.

"…I felt that…"

The Observer looked down at him.

"…External influence detected."

A pause.

"…Residual anomaly."

Noah frowned.

"…What?"

Behind him—

Lina's fingers twitched.

Once.

Then again.

Mira saw it first.

"…Noah."

He turned.

"…Lina?"

Her eyes opened.

Slowly.

But—

They weren't the same.

Not broken.

Not unstable.

But deeper.

Like something had changed.

Permanently.

"…You touched it," the Observer said.

Lina sat up slowly.

"…Yeah."

Her voice—

Calm.

But heavier.

"I did."

Silence.

The air around her—

Didn't distort.

It listened.

Again.

"…Then you understand," the Observer said.

A pause.

"…What you are."

Noah looked between them.

"…Okay I'm officially lost—what is she?"

Lina didn't answer immediately.

She looked at her hand.

Then closed it.

"…A mistake," she said.

Silence.

Mira shook her head.

"…That's not comforting."

The Observer spoke again.

"…Correction."

A pause.

"You are the first error."

Everything froze.

Noah's breath caught.

"…First…?"

The Observer continued.

"The system was designed to observe, filter, and preserve stable realities."

A beat.

"But you—"

He stepped forward.

"—were never meant to exist within it."

Lina stood up slowly.

"…Then why do I?"

Silence.

The Observer paused.

For longer than before.

"…Unknown."

That—

Was new.

Mira blinked.

"…Did he just say he doesn't know??"

Noah smiled faintly.

"…We're getting somewhere."

But Lina's expression didn't change.

"…No."

A step forward.

"That just means something went wrong."

Silence.

Then—

She looked up.

Not at the Observer.

Beyond him.

At something—

Higher.

"…And I want to know what."

The sky cracked again.

Not violently.

But deliberately.

Like something was… opening.

The Observer turned.

For the first time—

Uncertain.

"…Access denied."

Lina raised her hand.

"Override."

Silence.

Then—

The world responded.
