The dwelling was dark except for the dying embers of the fire pit, casting everything in dim orange shadows. For a moment, she thought Puffball was overreacting, that there was nothing—
Then she saw the silhouette.
A male. Standing just inside the curtain doorway. Swaying slightly.
Her heart stopped.
The figure took a stumbling step forward, and the ember light caught his face.
One of the younger males from earlier. She didn't know his name, but she recognized him from the crowd that had gathered around Darius. Muscular build, brown hair, leopard ears that were currently pinned back against his head.
And his eyes.
His eyes were wrong.
Glassy. Unfocused. Pupils blown wide. And the way he was looking at her—
Hungry.
Predatory.
Lustful in a way that made her skin crawl.
