Nyx's arms tightened around Faelyn. His voice dropped to something cold and lethal. "Saved what's mine."
Roshan's gaze snapped to the body on the floor. His ears flattened instantly against his skull, but his expression stayed eerily controlled.

He dropped into a crouch beside the corpse, inhaling deeply, cataloging everything with frightening efficiency. The shattered pottery. The abandoned fire poker. Kael's defensive wounds. Faelyn's disheveled clothing. The stone blade still gripped in her white-knuckled hand.
"Zara root," Roshan said flatly. "Mixed with moon blossom extract. Heavy dosing—enough to strip away all fear and control." His green eyes lifted to Faelyn. "Did he say anything? About who gave it to him?"
