Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The First Strike

Sophie's POV

When Damien pulled the "dress casual" stunt yesterday, I thought to myself "this was not going to be so bad." Now here with his father and Elena Floretti, it felt like hell.

"Hey Damien." She said catwalking towards him.

"Elena." Damien said and gave her a kiss on the cheeks.

"Hi I'm…" I started as I rose to shake hands with her.

"Sit." Damien's father spoke.

Elena smirked again and rolled her eyes.

"So Damien, are you here to take me out?" She said sitting on his laps and Damien adjusted himself.

"You, come with me." His father said and led the way.

I followed him like a sheep for slaughter. We got to the balcony and he stopped abruptly, I was admiring the beauty of the interior designs I didn't know when I bumped into him from behind.

"I'm so sorry sir." I said, realizing what I had done.

"Mhm, sit." he said pointing to a chair that I hadn't noticed was there.

"What you're asking for is big." He started.

Oh, down to business. No "would you have tea?" Just down to business.

"Tell me about the night it happened." He said.

This man talked in syllables. He wasn't direct. What kind of problem had I put myself?

"What night?" I asked, pretending to be confused.

"Don't play with me." He said, sounding really strict.

*Flashback

"Please leave me alone." I begged him.

"You're mine tonight." He said walking to me and smiling mischievously.

"Please." I begged tears already flowing from my eyes, freely but he didn't listen he just came like a kid who had seen a prize waiting for him.

I tried to run, the door was locked, the keys were in his pocket.

He dragged my hair, and drew me close.

"Why are you trying to hide from me? We belong together." He said taking off his trousers too.

"Now, why don't you be an obedient little girl for me?" he said.

"I'll do everything you ask, please just leave me alone." I cried, but my pleas fell on deaf ears.

He tore my dress and grabbed my breast, I had stopped resisting, I only cried.

"See? You like it." He said grabbing them like he wanted to remove them.

"Please." I said, my voice feeling faint.

"This is just the tip of the iceberg, were going into the main course now." He said and burst laughing like a maniac.

As he bent to look for condoms in my drawer one word rang in my head.

"Run."

This was the perfect time, he was distracted. I pushed him hard, his head hit the table. I expected to hear a groan or wince because of the pain but then I saw it.

Blood. He was dead.

*End flashback.

"Quite the event." He said clearing his throat and lighting his cigar.

"Do you accept the risk?" He said, looking straight like he was thinking of something else.

"Yes." I said, almost whispering.

"You don't, take time to think about it." He said.

"Damien is to marry Elena, as you seen. She is a very reputable and beautiful young lady, he would go public with her, not you." He added.

"It's not a real marriage." I said and his eyes lit up.

"Elaborate." He said, dropping his cigar back in the plate.

I explained again how everything went downhill in case I wasn't clear the first time, and how this might be good for Damien.

"You're cunning." He said, sounding more interested.

"I like to think so." I said, this man was beginning to piss me off with his questions and answers.

"Do you accept or not?" I said getting irritated.

"Mhm." He cleared his throat.

"Elena would have to wait for two years you say?" He asked raising his left eye brow.

"Exactly, till everything is over." I answered, my confidence rising.

"You play a very tricky game, till we meet again. Ms Callahan." He said standing up and walking away.

I stood there, perplexed. Was that a yes? Or no?

"Mrs Santiago." Marco's voice cut through my thoughts. He said and pointed to the car downstairs, indicating it was time to leave.

I followed him and went down, Elena and Damien were already there, holding hands.

"Bye darling." Elena said and gave him a peck on the cheeks and they gave me a deadly stare.

If stares could kill, I'd have been long gone.

I entered the car not wanting to be involved in what ever was going on, and waited for Damien. My head was buried in my palms, replaying the conversation I just had with his father, then my mind went back to my father's voice.

"I want nothing to do with her dead or alive."

I swallowed hard. The car engines made me jump a bit as I blinked my eyes open. Damien sat there with his dark shades with a stern look, Elena's cologne reeked all over him.

"It's time." Marco said, giving Damien a small nod.

Damien nodded his head in response.

The drive back was quiet. Even with the shades, I could see Damien stealing glances.

As we got closer to the house gate, a black SUV came out from nowhere and stopped right in front ours causing us to stop with force.

"Argh." I groaned as my head hit the window.

"Are you okay?" Damien asked checking my head, if this wasn't business I'd have fallen in love.

"Yes." I answered quickly.

The main question was "what was happening here?"

The car outside did a 360 round our car and then drove off.

Marco gave Damien a look I couldn't name and Damien nodded in agreement.

No. If it was what I was thinking, I was dead.

"Adriano." His name was on my lips waiting for me to say them.

My phone buzzed and the messages on the screen sent a shiver down my spine confirming my thoughts.

"Game on, Winter." With a laughing emoji.

This was hell let loose.
