The stillness lingered only a little longer before the world began to return.
Stella was the first to shift, though she didn't pull away. Instead, she rose slightly onto one arm, her gaze settling on me with quiet attentiveness already awake in the way only a perfectly trained maid could be.
"The morning awaits you, Valerie-sama" she said softly, though there was no urgency in her tone.
Leysritt, still close at my side, traced a slow, absent-minded circle against the back of my hand more instinct than intention. "But it can wait a moment longer," she added, her voice gentler, less formal.
Valerie glanced between them.
Even now like this there was contrast.
Stella: composed, precise, always aware of duty.
Leysritt: softer, more openly devoted, less afraid of lingering.
"A moment," I agreed quietly.
That was all it took.
Stella reached for the silken robe draped nearby, but instead of immediately wrapping it around me, her fingers brushed lightly along my shoulders first an unspoken continuation of last night's care. The fabric followed slowly after, settling around me with deliberate grace.
Leysritt helped me sit up, one hand steady at her back, the other briefly lingering at her waist before slipping away.
Neither touch was accidental.
Neither was rushed.
As I rose from the bed, the cool air reminded me the night we shared, a night full of warmth. But it didn't linger long. Stella stepped in close behind her, adjusting the robe, smoothing it into place with practiced precision, while Leysritt moved ahead to prepare the chamber.
Curtains parted.
Light spilled in.
The world returned.
But the intimacy didn't vanish it simply changed form.
At the dressing mirror, I sat as Stella began tending to her hair once more, slow strokes of the brush calming, rhythmic. Leysritt knelt nearby, fastening delicate pieces of attire, her movements careful, almost reverent.
"Your schedule is heavy today, Valerie-sama" Stella noted.
"Yes an audition at devimuse agency" Leysritt added quietly.
My reflection met my own eyes in the mirror.
The Devil Princess.
Cool and Composed.
And yet her gaze softened, just slightly, as she looked at the two beside her.
And as the final pieces of her attire fell into place, I rose followed by two shadows who were far more than servants.
The morning's softness had long faded by the time Valerie Noctis stood before the towering mirror in her private carriage chamber, the world outside already alive with movement as it carried her toward Devimuse Agency.
Stella stood behind her, fastening the final clasps of a refined, performance-ready outfit something far removed from my usual dark regality. It still held her essence deep blacks and subtle crimson accents but it was lighter, more expressive designed to be seen, not feared.
Leysritt knelt at her side, adjusting the hem and smoothing the fabric along my legs, ensuring every line fell perfectly. Her touch lingered just a fraction longer than necessary steadying, grounding.
"You'll outshine them all, with just your looks" Leysritt said quietly.
The carriage slowed slightly distant sounds of voices, music, and bustling crowds beginning to bleed through the silence.
They were close.
Leysritt rose now, stepping nearer. Her hand briefly adjusted the collar near Valerie's neck, her fingers brushing lightly against her skin before settling the fabric into place.
"Then let them see you," she murmured.
Stella placed a small, elegant accessory into my hair something subtle, yet striking. "An evidol commands attention," she said softly. "But you don't need to chase it."
"I will be the brightest shining star there is in the netherworld".
A faint smirk touched Valerie's lips.
The carriage came to a halt.
Outside, the towering structure of Devimuse Agency awaited its grand entrance filled with hopefuls, performers, dreamers.
There was no hesitation.
When the door opened, she stepped out not as a ruler of darkness and shadow, but as something just as commanding.
A presence impossible to ignore.
Behind her, Mercedes followed silently protecting me while Stella and Leysritt stayed behind.
And as Valerie crossed the threshold toward her audition, there was no doubt left in her mind.
Whether stage or throne the world would still bend. And she will become greatest evidol there is and shine the brightest.
With such resolve in heart I step forward.
