Chapter 6 - The Truth She Almost Told

There's always a moment…

Right before everything breaks.

You don't notice it at first.

It feels normal.

Safe.

And then—

It isn't.

That's how it felt when I saw her.

Sarah.

Sitting alone in the library.

Of course she was.

Quiet place.

No noise.

No questions.

No witnesses.

I stood there for a second.

Watching.

She didn't look up.

Didn't react.

"Are you going to keep staring," she said calmly

"or are you actually going to sit down?"

I exhaled.

Walked in.

Sat across from her.

"You always liked quiet places," I said.

"And you always liked ruining them," she replied.

Same tone.

Same control.

Same Sarah.

But something felt off.

She was too calm.

"You've been avoiding me," I said.

"I've been avoiding problems."

"Same thing."

That made her pause.

Just for a second.

Then she closed the book.

Slowly.

"What do you want?"

"The truth."

A small smile.

"Of course you do."

"I'm serious."

"So am I."

Silence.

She leaned back.

Studying me.

"You really don't remember," she said.

Not a question.

A fact.

"I remember enough."

"That's not the same."

"Then fill the rest."

She let out a quiet breath.

"You think it's that simple?"

"No."

I leaned forward.

"But I think you know everything."

Her eyes locked on mine.

And then—

"I do."

That landed heavy.

Too heavy.

"Then say it," I said.

She didn't.

Instead—

"Do you remember the rain?" she asked.

Flash.

Water hitting the ground.

Cold.

Loud.

"Yes."

"The argument?"

My jaw tightened.

"…yes."

She nodded slowly.

"And after that?"

Silence.

Because that's where everything broke.

"I…" I tried.

Nothing.

Just fragments.

Noise.

Darkness.

"I don't," I admitted.

There it was.

The truth.

She watched me carefully.

"Of course you don't."

My chest tightened.

"What does that mean?"

She hesitated.

For the first time—

She hesitated.

"You were there," she said.

"I know that."

"No," she shook her head

"You don't understand."

"Then explain it."

Her fingers tightened slightly.

"You weren't just there."

Silence.

"You were part of it."

The words hit harder than anything so far.

"What are you talking about?"

Her voice dropped.

"You were the reason it happened."

Everything stopped.

"No."

My voice came out wrong.

"That's not true."

"Isn't it?" she said quietly.

"I would remember."

"Would you?"

Silence.

Because now—

I wasn't sure.

"People forget things," she continued

"When they can't live with them."

I stood up.

"No."

She didn't move.

Didn't react.

"Am I wrong?" she asked.

I ran a hand through my hair.

"This doesn't make sense."

"It will."

"When?"

"When you stop running from it."

"I'm not running."

"You are."

That hit.

Because it was true.

"Why didn't anyone tell me?" I asked.

"Because it would destroy you."

"And this won't?"

Silence.

That was the answer.

I took a step back.

"Tell me what I did."

Her expression changed.

Just a little.

Less control.

More… something else.

"Lucas…" she started.

Then stopped.

Silence.

Heavy.

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"Because once you know…"

She swallowed.

"…you won't be the same."

Too late.

I already wasn't.

I turned.

Started walking away.

"Lucas."

I stopped.

Didn't turn.

"Be careful what you're trying to remember."

"Why?"

Her voice dropped.

Low.

Serious.

"Because some truths…"

A pause.

"…don't just hurt you."

Silence.

"They destroy everything around you."

I walked out.

Fast.

Because I needed air.

Because I needed distance.

Because something inside me…

Was starting to break.

My phone vibrated.

I froze.

Slowly…

I pulled it out.

Another message.

Same unknown number.

My heart started racing.

I opened it.

A video.

Short.

Dark.

Shaky.

My breath caught.

Because I recognized the place.

That road.

That night.

And then—

The sound.

My voice.

Shouting.

Louder than I remembered.

More violent.

More… real.

I stopped breathing.

Because suddenly—

This wasn't just memory.

This was proof.

And whatever I did that night…

It was worse than I thought.

🖤 Poem — Sarah

I kept the truth locked inside

like silence could make it fade

but some things don't disappear

they wait in the choices we made

and the worst kind of truth…

is the one we helped create
