The night had grown very quiet. The room was dimly lit, and the silence felt peaceful after the long day filled with emotions, teasing, and studying.
Hirav sat quietly on the bed. On one side, his younger sister Riya had fallen asleep after hours of worrying about her exam. On the other side, Maggie rested against him, her head gently placed on his chest. Both of them looked calm and peaceful.
For a moment, Hirav simply watched them, feeling a strange warmth in his heart.
After a while, Maggie slowly opened her eyes. She looked up at Hirav and whispered softly so that Riya wouldn't wake up.
"They both fell asleep while waiting for your answer," she said gently. "But I didn't."
Hirav looked at her quietly. Maggie moved a little closer to him and rested her head near his shoulder.
"I just want to know the truth," she whispered.
The room remained silent except for Riya's quiet breathing. Maggie and Hirav spoke softly, careful not to wake her.
Maggie looked into his eyes and said, "Just tell me honestly… what were you going to say to your sister about us?"
Hirav didn't answer immediately. Instead, he gently held Maggie's hand.
The moment felt serious now, no longer playful like earlier.
"I care about you," he said quietly.
Maggie's cheeks turned pink, and she smiled softly. She leaned a little closer and hugged him gently. For a moment they simply stayed like that, feeling comfortable in each other's presence.
After the long and emotional day, they both felt tired.
Maggie rested her head on his chest again.
"Let's not think too much tonight," she whispered. "I just want your love… nothing else."
Hirav nodded.
"Yes," he said softly. "Just your love is enough."
Hearing those words made Maggie smile warmly. She hugged him again, her eyes filled with happiness.
Soon both of them began to drift toward sleep.
Just then Hirav noticed something unexpected.
The door of the room was slightly open, and through the small gap he saw Riya standing there, her eyes wide with surprise. She had woken up earlier and accidentally seen them hugging.
Embarrassed, she quickly covered her face.
"I'm sorry, bro…" she said nervously.
Hirav immediately stood up and went to her.
"No, sis," he said gently. "You don't need to say sorry."
Maggie also walked over and gave Riya a small, friendly hug to comfort her.
Riya looked at both of them, still a little emotional but also smiling.
"I guess I already knew," she said shyly. "You both care about each other."
Then she wiped her tears and laughed softly.
"Sorry, sister-in-law," she joked, which made Maggie blush deeply.
Maggie covered her face in embarrassment, but soon everyone started laughing quietly.
To make the moment less awkward, Maggie pulled Riya into another hug and placed her between them on the bed. Riya leaned comfortably against both of them.
Still smiling sleepily, Riya murmured, "Best night ever… my brother is in love."
Within minutes she fell asleep again.
Maggie looked at Hirav and kissed Riya's forehead gently before resting her head back on Hirav's shoulder.
"I think your sister approves of us now," she whispered.
Hirav smiled quietly.
Outside, the night remained calm. Inside the room, the three of them slowly drifted into peaceful sleep—tired, but surrounded by warmth, forgiveness, and the beginning of something beautiful.
