Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

The car slowed.

Then stopped.

But she didn't move.

For a moment, she simply sat there, her fingers clenched tightly in her lap, her heartbeat loud in her ears.

Because something felt—

Different.

He stepped out first.

As always.

In control.

When the door opened for her, cold air brushed against her skin, making her inhale sharply. Slowly, she stepped out—

And froze.

A tall gate stood open before her.

Not welcoming.

Not warm.

Just… open.

As if it had no need to close.

As if nothing dared to enter without permission.

Beyond it, a long path stretched into the darkness, faint lights guiding the way like silent watchers.

And at the end—

A mansion.

Massive.

Silent.

Watching.

Her chest tightened.

This wasn't just a home.

It felt like something that swallowed people whole.

She didn't even realize she had stopped walking until his voice reached her.

"Come."

One word.

Low.

Calm.

But it left no room for hesitation.

Her feet obeyed before her mind could.

Step.

By step.

She followed him inside.

The doors opened without a sound.

And the moment she crossed the threshold—

Something shifted.

The warmth inside didn't comfort her.

It trapped her.

The air felt heavy.

Too still.

Too controlled.

Her eyes moved slowly around the space.

Everything was perfect.

Too perfect.

Not a single thing out of place.

Not a single sound.

It didn't feel lived in.

It felt… owned.

"You're thinking too much."

His voice came from beside her.

She flinched slightly.

He hadn't even looked at her.

Yet he knew.

Of course he did.

Footsteps approached.

Measured.

Careful.

A man stopped at a distance, lowering his head respectfully.

"Sir."

No curiosity.

No surprise.

Just obedience.

"From now on, she will be staying here," he said.

Two words.

Cold.

Final.

The man nodded immediately.

"Understood."

No questions asked.

None allowed.

Her throat felt dry.

"She will be staying here?" she repeated softly, almost to herself.

He turned his head slightly, his gaze falling on her.

Dark.

Steady.

Unyielding.

"You heard me."

Her breath hitched.

The way he said it—

It didn't feel temporary.

It didn't feel like a visit.

It felt permanent.

Like a decision already carved in stone.

The man stepped forward slightly.

"I'll prepare the room."

"It's already done," he replied.

Of course it was.

Everything here moved before it was spoken.

Before it was needed.

She felt small standing there.

Out of place.

Like something that had been taken from one world—

And placed into another.

He took a step closer.

Not touching.

But close enough to make her feel his presence.

"You won't be disturbed here," he said quietly.

His voice dropped slightly.

Lower.

Darker.

"But don't mistake that for freedom."

Her breath stopped.

The words wrapped around her slowly.

Carefully.

Like something meant to stay.

Her fingers tightened around the coat draped over her shoulders.

Safe.

But not free.

Protected.

But not untouched.

Her heart pounded harder.

Because deep down—

She understood.

She hadn't escaped anything.

She had simply stepped into a different kind of darkness.

And this one—

Had chosen her.
