Chapter 5 - The ride home

•The Ride Home•

The night air outside the club was colder than Lila expected.

The loud music faded behind them as the heavy doors shut, leaving only the distant hum of the city and the glow of streetlights.

Lila wrapped her arms around herself slightly.

"Okay," she muttered. "I definitely needed that fresh air."

Marcus walked ahead toward the sleek black car parked near the curb.

It wasn't just any car.

It looked expensive.

Very expensive.

Lila raised an eyebrow.

"Please tell me that's not yours."

Marcus smirked.

"Oh no," he said casually, opening the back door. "That one belongs to the scary looking guy over there."

Adrian ignored the comment.

His attention was on Lila.

Always on Lila.

"Get in," he said calmly.

She hesitated for a moment before sliding into the back seat.

The interior smelled faintly of leather and something darker… expensive cologne maybe.

Adrian got in beside her while Marcus took the driver's seat.

As the car pulled away from the club, silence filled the space.

Lila leaned her head back against the seat.

"So," she said lazily, "does every mysterious businessman drive around in a car like this with a stranger he picked up at a club?"

Marcus chuckled.

"Only the extremely obsessed ones."

Adrian spoke coldly.

"Where do you live?"

Lila blinked.

"You're not secretly planning to kidnap me, right?"

Marcus laughed loudly.

Adrian didn't.

He simply waited.

"…Relax," she added quickly. "I'm joking."

She gave him the address.

And he replied with a nod

Adrian knows this address already he literally is there every night.

A small neighborhood.

Not poor not rich just a middle class.

But far from the world he lived in.

His eyes darkened slightly.

Marcus noticed.

Of course he noticed.

And he sighed quietly.

This was going to be another day of stalking.

30 minutes later, the car stopped in front of Lila's street.

Small houses lined the quiet road.

Streetlights flickered softly.

Lila unbuckled her seatbelt.

"Well," she said, glancing at Adrian. "Thanks for the ride, mysterious alley guy."

She opened the door.

Then paused.

And looked back at him.

"You're still staring."

Adrian's voice was low.

"You talk a lot and I if I could clearly remember I have name."

She smirked.

"Mysterious alley guy suites you better."

Marcus choked on laughter in the front seat.

Lila stepped out of the car and closed the door.

For a moment she stood there, watching the car.

Then she shook her head.

"Alley guy," she murmured before walking toward her house.

Inside the car, Marcus leaned back.

"Well," he said.

"That was fun."

Adrian was still staring at the house.

Marcus followed his gaze.

"You're not seriously thinking about it, are you?"

Silence.

Marcus sighed.

"Adrian…"

Adrian finally spoke.

" I'll watch her tonight so we are staying."

Marcus groaned.

"Of course you'd say that."

Adrian's eyes didn't move from the house.

The street was quiet now, the kind of silence that felt almost unnatural after the chaos of the club.

Rain from earlier had left a faint sheen on the asphalt, reflecting the dim glow of the streetlights.

Adrian didn't move. He stayed in the car, staring at Lila's small house.

Marcus leaned back in the driver's seat, watching him with a mixture of exasperation and amusement.

"You know, I've seen a lot in my life, Adrian.

Shootouts, double-crosses, love triangles… but this? Sitting in a car staring at some girl's house like a damn lunatic? That's a new level."

Adrian didn't answer. His mind was elsewhere.

He had already memorized everything about her—her routines, her habits, the way she laughed, the way her brow furrowed when she was thinking hard.

And tonight… tonight he had seen her differently. Vulnerable, tired, from too much music

A shiver of something dangerous passed through him Possession desire.

Something far beyond curiosity.

Marcus sighed. "You know she's going to think you're creepy if you do this too long, right?"

Adrian's gaze didn't waver. "She already does why not act like one ."

Marcus shook his head. "You're insane."

The car remained parked for nearly an hour.

Rain began again, soft at first, then steadily falling, pattering against the roof of the sedan.

Adrian barely noticed.

Inside her house, Lila had changed into something comfortable, her hair tied loosely as she moved quietly through the living room.

She didn't know she was being watched.

Not really.

Adrian's eyes tracked her movements through the streetlights, through shadows, memorizing the way she stood at her kitchen counter, the way she hummed softly to herself as she poured tea.

He didn't just watch. He observed.

Calculated.

Protected.

Marcus broke the silence after a long pause. "You ever think about talking to her? Like… actually talking to her?"

Adrian's jaw tightened. "Not yet."

"Not yet?" Marcus laughed. "That's terrifying."

Adrian's dark eyes didn't move. "Patience.

She has to understand the world I come from before she'll ever understand me."

Marcus groaned. "You just like watching her, don't you?"

Adrian's lips curved slightly, almost imperceptibly.

"I don't just watch her. I know her. And soon… she'll know me."

The rain fell harder.

The street was deserted.

The soft glow from the living room windows illuminated Lila as she finally sat down with her cup of tea.

Her expression was tired but content, completely unaware that someone had been watching her every move tonight.

Adrian's hand rested lightly against the window.

His thumb brushed against the cold glass as if he could reach inside and touch her.

Marcus muttered under his breath, "You're going to get caught eventually."

Adrian's voice was low, a whisper more to himself than to Marcus. "Then it would be more interesting."he replied smirking

The night stretched on.

Rain fell steadily.

Lights flickered.

And Adrian Voss, the feared, cold, calculating man who ruled half the city's underground, remained in the shadows—watching, waiting, obsessed.

Somewhere deep down, he knew this was just the beginning.

Not just of his obsession.

But of hers too.🖤
