The next morning felt unusually calm. The base was quiet in a way that made everyone uncomfortable. After everything they had faced, silence no longer felt peaceful. It felt like something was missing. Like the storm had paused but had not ended.
Jenny was sitting in the control room, staring at the main screen. She kept tapping her fingers on the table, clearly annoyed by the lack of action. "I don't like this," she said after a while. "At least when something is attacking, we know what to do. This… this feels worse." Kevin stood nearby, checking the system again. He had already checked it many times. Nothing new appeared. No signals. No energy spikes. That was what worried him the most.
Across the room, Mira and Adrian were discussing quietly. Their voices were low but their expressions were serious. "Energy like that does not just disappear," Adrian said. Mira nodded slowly. "It hasn't disappeared. It is hiding. Or waiting." Those words made the room feel even heavier.
Elisa stood near the window, looking outside. She had been quiet since the night before. Zoe walked up to her and stood beside her. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Zoe said softly, "You still feel it, don't you?" Elisa nodded. "Yes. It's still there. Not gone. Just quiet." She paused for a second and then added, "Like it wants us to notice."
Suddenly the screen flickered. Kevin turned around quickly. "Wait… something just appeared." Everyone moved closer. A single signal showed up on the map. It was small but steady. It did not move like the others had before. It stayed in one place, almost like it was calling them. Mira looked at it carefully. "This is different," she said. "This is not like the previous readings."
Elisa stepped forward slowly. The moment she looked at the signal, her ring began to glow faintly. She felt a strange pull, something deep and strong. She knew this feeling now. It was the same presence that had been watching them. "This is not random," she said quietly. Everyone looked at her. She met their eyes and said, "It's a message."
No one spoke for a moment. The idea settled slowly in their minds. Jake crossed his arms and looked at the screen. "So it wants us to go there," he said. Louis gave a slight nod. "Which means it could be a trap." Jenny let out a small sigh. "Of course it is a trap. It's always a trap."
Adrian stepped forward. "We need to be careful. We don't know what we are dealing with." Elisa looked at him, then at the rest of the team. "We never did," she said. "But we still fought." There was no fear in her voice now. Only calm determination. One by one, the others nodded. They all understood.
The signal stayed on the screen, unmoving. Waiting. And this time, they knew they would not ignore it.
