Chapter 34 - Beyond the Edge

The path they had been following no longer felt like a normal path. At first, it had been simple, just a direction guided by faint energy readings, but now everything around them felt different. The air had grown heavier, and even the silence felt strange, as if it was watching them. Jenny walked at the front without hesitation, her focus fixed ahead, while the others followed closely behind. No one spoke much anymore because there was nothing left to say. They all felt it. Whatever they were chasing was no longer just a clue. It was something real, something close.

Zoe kept checking her device as they moved, her expression growing more serious with each step. The energy was stronger now, but it was unstable, rising and falling in ways that made it hard to track. Louis tried to adjust the readings, but the signal kept slipping, almost like it did not want to be followed. When they finally stopped, it was not because the path ended, but because something felt wrong. The space in front of them looked normal, yet the air shimmered faintly. Jenny stepped closer and reached out her hand. The moment she touched it, a ripple spread through the air, like water being disturbed. Everyone froze as the space flickered again, revealing a faint outline of something hidden.

As the distortion grew clearer, it became obvious that it was not just empty space. It was a break, something like a doorway but not fully formed. The air shifted again, opening just enough to reveal a glimpse of what lay beyond. The light on the other side was unfamiliar, soft but unnatural, and it carried a strange feeling that none of them could ignore. Zoe confirmed that the energy they had been tracking was coming from inside that opening. That was enough for Jenny. Even though they did not know what was waiting for them, she understood that this was the only way forward.

There was a brief moment of silence before anyone moved. Kevin hesitated, Jake remained calm, and Stebin looked uncertain, but none of them stepped back. Jenny took a slow breath and made the decision without saying much. One by one, they moved forward together. As soon as she stepped through, the world around her shifted instantly. The ground beneath her feet felt lighter, and the air carried a faint glow that did not exist in their world. When the others followed, the opening behind them disappeared, leaving no path back.

The place they had entered was unlike anything they had seen before. The sky was dim but glowing, and the ground stretched endlessly in all directions. It did not feel empty, just unfamiliar, as if it followed different rules. Zoe tried to read the energy again, but her device reacted strangely, unable to settle on a single reading. Jenny, however, did not need a device. She could feel it clearly now. The same energy they had been chasing was stronger here. She looked ahead and saw a faint glow in the distance, steady and alive. Without hesitation, she spoke softly, certain of what she felt. Elisa was here, somewhere in this unknown place, and they had finally reached her.
